"Fangs of the Twin Serpents". These daggers work as a set and require attunement to both. As the wielder levels up, the daggers grant new abilities, growing in power alongside their user. Here’s a progression system that starts with their base features and adds boons at certain levels, the first major boon at level 2.
### Fangs of the Twin Serpents - Weapon (dagger, requires attunement by one creature, attuned as a pair) #### Base Properties (Uncommon Magic Weapon) - +1 to attack and damage rolls made with these magic weapons. - When wielding both daggers, the user gains +1 AC due to improved balance and awareness. - Serpent Strike: Once per long rest, when attacking a creature with both daggers on the same turn, the user can deal an extra 1d4 poison damage to one of the targets. ####
Level 2 Boon: Venomous Fangs - Venomous Bite (Recharge 5-6): The daggers now exude venom. When you hit with both daggers in the same turn, you can force the target to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 13) or become poisoned for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success. - Improved Serpent Strike: The poison damage from Serpent Strike increases to 1d6. ####
Level 5 Boon: Forked Tongue - Forked Tongue (Once per Short Rest): You may make an additional attack with one of the daggers as a bonus action when you take the Attack action, provided you have already made an attack with both daggers. - Serpent Strike Upgrade: The extra poison damage increases to 1d8, and you can use this feature twice per long rest. ####
Level 9 Boon: Envenomed Blades - Envenomed Blades (Recharge 4-6): The daggers’ venom now lingers in the wounds. When you hit a poisoned target with both daggers, they take an additional 2d6 poison damage, and the poison effect cannot end until the user makes their saving throw twice in a row. - Improved Venomous Bite: The save DC for Venomous Bite increases to 15. ####
Level 12 Boon: Serpents' Grasp - Serpents' Grasp (Once per Long Rest): You can unleash the full power of the daggers. As an action, both daggers transform into spectral serpents that coil around the target, attempting to immobilize them. The target must make a Strength saving throw (DC 16) or become paralyzed for 1 minute. They may repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns. While paralyzed in this way, the target takes 2d6 poison damage at the start of their turn.
This scaling system offers meaningful upgrades at important milestones, keeping the daggers relevant and giving the player something to look forward to as they progress.
