Need help to organize all the expertise feats

Stalker0

Legend
All, I have a confession to make. The Stalker here has been a very bad rules lawyer of late.

I went from utter mastery of the rules in all forms to now being behind the times as far as all the new feats and rulebooks go.

One of my points of confusion has been the expertise feats. There are so many types of them I've lost track! Also errata has changed several of them to slightly new versions.

Can someone help me out and go through the various expertise feats to understand how they all work now?

Well, there are really only two kinds of Expertise to worry about, IMO, nowadays.

(1) The various Expertise feats from Heroes of the Fallen Lands, which combine the attack bonuses (which increase to +2 at 11th and +3 at 21st levels) with special abilities. Basically, if you are using something on this list, you should take this option.
Axe
Bludgeon (Hammer + Mace)
Staff (Weapon + Implement)
Heavy Blade
Light Blade
Bow
Crossbow
Orb
Wand

I may have missed one or two. Hopefully, the rest of the list will be filled out either in HotFK or the upcoming PHB class book.

Or, if you aren't using one of those,

(2) Versatile Expertise. Take a weapon type and an implement type, get +1 to attacks with them whether they're used as a weapon or implement. It increases to +2 at 15th and +3 at 25th.

You did - the All Weapons feat. The benefit of which (in addition to the to hit bonus) is the ability to swap weapons faster than normal.

The only earlier expertise feat that remains competitive with the expertise feats in Heroes of the Fallen Lands is Versatile Expertise, and then only if it is used to combine an actual implement with a weapon.

Weapon Mastery (with pre-requisites of Weapon Expertise and Weapon Focus) used to justify the continued existence of Weapon Expertise, but now the feat chain required to come out ahead is just too long.
