Need help w/ class or feat

First Post
I have a player interested in the Ultimate Magus. One of the prereqs is that you have to be able to cast Arcane spells prepared from a spellbook. Typically, this means you MUST be Wizard for one of the two Ultimate Magus base classes.

I was wondering if there were any other base classes, or alternate class abilities, or even feats (Arcane Preparation?) that could also fulfill this prereq.

Any ideas?

I'm a bit curious ... care to explain why? I've glanced at the class but not given it any serious study.
Well, before I first played a Wu jen (halfling with one monk level and no multiclass penalty), I read a nice book about how Chinese culture is superior and the rest of the world are barbarians. Very funny read. Intentionally.

So I came to the table with a character who was sooo convinced that all others were hardly worth being his servants. And I spoke all the time with Chinese accent. Add the funny taboos. :D

Additionally I always loved the focus on elemental spellcasting, so Shugenja and Wujen have more style IMHO than wizards and sorcerers.

And you can have sooo much fun with taboos. Especially if the character refuses to do some simple or dirty tasks that he would be allowed to perform... but that he considers to be too mundane for him ;)

IIRC once the other players were bound... and my char refused to untie them because he wasn't allowed to touch the ropes.

Unseen Servant, Mage Hand and Tensers Disk (complete with chinaware Tea cups and pots and table-cloth) are mandatory. :D

I'm looking sooo forward to play this char again now in the next Ptolus campaign we're going to start :D
