Need help with a build

Ok, first off, some background.

My DM is running a campaign where we are all forced to be level 1 aristocrats. (I know, I know)... Anywho, we started playing, and managed to level to level 3 in one night. He told us this at the end, so now I can start to build my character how I want. During character creation, he had us roll 4d8 dropping lowest. Once we had 2 sets rolled and one set chosen (not assigned), he had us pass the numbers to our right. we then assigned our new numbers to abilities, and chose a race. We then passed to the right again, and that is what we were stuck with. His thinking was that you do not get to choose who you are born to or how you are physically and mentally. I do not mind this, it makes things a bit interesting. The stats I got are STR 10, DEX 14, CON 14, INT 18, WIS 16(or 17), CHA 20. I would like to appeal to the collective knowledge of Enworld to help me build a character, or at least start one. Just the first 2 levels please, I can take it from there. Some points to note, I dislike casters in general, but will have somewhat of an open mind. I enjoy playing skirmish based characters, and also really enjoy the warlock flavour. I do not want to be a wizard or sorcerer, as I absolutely suck at playing that type of character. Any books would be allowed, but please no Psionics.

Thank you, and go nuts ;)

Also, the aristocrat class is free, and does not count to multiclassing XP penalties

With those stats, you might would consider a rogue or bard. You've got a really high charisma score as well as your intel. Intel is always good for more skill points and your dex isn't bad (which is why I said rogue). Your charisma is excellent and that will go a long way with the bard. You've got two really good stats so I'd focus on a class that uses those. I know you don't want to play a caster, but as a sorcerer with a charisma of 20...thats awesome, or a warlock.

Bard/Warlock woould be awesome with that stat array. So long as you picked human (or half-elf?) as your starting race, either class can count as your "favored" class. Plus, you know, extra skill points and a feat.

All excelent suggestions

I think I m going to go with Bard, after doing ome more reading

may m/c into warlock if the campaign goes anywhere

How about...Warmage/Cleric/Mystic Theurge?

That way you can use all those high mental stats. Warmage gives tons of blasting versatility, cleric covers buffing and utility casting. With that build, you can also play an MT in armor, even mithral fullplate if you spend a feat to improve your armored casting. Your highest stat, charisma, also pulls double duty, affecting warmage casting and turn undead (and many divine feats) for cleric.

My mt, Dandu, you are so quick to poo poo on sorcerous builds. It's clear by your .sig that you have a particular style of making characters. Why is Stream's build un-versatile?

Warmage is not a good blaster. Not is it versatile unless you really know what you are doing.

You see, having 10 ways to deal roughly the same amount of damage is inferior to having one or two ways of dealing that much damage and several other types of spells such as buffing, debuffing, utility, etc.

Now, Warmages get some of these spells, but not many. You can add to the list of spells known, but the best options for that involve prestige classes which are not Mystic Theurge, or expensive items that not every DM approves of.

I now link to the Warmage handbook.

Hrm... I notice on that guide that a Warmage build prestiging into the Prestige Bard variant is recommended. I don't understand Warmages that well (as I have yet to play one)... but the Bard Prestige class is interesting. I'm assuming that the PrC benefit over a standard Bard is the increased caster levels on the Warmage side... are there any other benefits I'm not seeing?
