Need help with an FR minor artifact's means of destruction

Glamdring

First Post
The artifact is called "The Dark Eye." It is the phylactery of a shadow dracolich named Zurldrezzimnodran. I won't go into the details of how Zurl became a dracolich using the Shadow Weave as oppose to the conventional Cult methods, but I will say this:

The Dark Eye resembles an onyx crystal of about fist size. In actuality, the onyx is a piece of concentrated, rock-hard shadow stuff forged by Gond and infused with Shar's essence (such trickery! Poor Gond.) Anyway, when Zurl's soul inhabits the onyx (upon his body's destruction, or at the dracolich's whim) the gem takes on the status of an intelligent item. After adding up the primary, extraordinary abilities, its purpose (slay all those who work Weave magic and those who worship Mystra, Azuth, Velsharoon, Savras, and Corellon-quite a purpose!), its ability modifiers, and it's extra freebies, the item's Ego adds up to 44. Yes, 44. After all, Shar's essence is in here, folks, and she's pretty powerful. At any rate, anyone grabbing the item when the old shadow dracolich's soul is within (making it difficult to locate due to the dormancy of the item when it is "empty") will find themselves completely under the thrall of the mighty undead wyrm. This thing is a lot like Crenshinibon (sp?), or even the One Ring (do I dare compare?) in that not even Elminster would willingly touch it, fearing the draw of power (which is considerable - I'll post it's powers later if you all wish). What I need are some cool means of destruction. I've thought up three, and I'm open for suggestions, revisions, and new ideas. Here they are:

-It must be struck by Craftmaster (Gond's personal hammer) under the full light of Selune during the first night of winter (I forget the proper FR names for the seasons) while resting upon a mithril anvil blessed by Mystra or Selune.

-It must be disjoined by 5 liches (good, neutral or evil alignment, it matters not), each of whom must have taken Mystra, Azuth, Savras, Velsharoon, and Corellon as their patron. A representative of each faith must cast the disjunction at the same time, and the casting causes an effect similar to a retributive strike.

-It must be cast into the positive energy plane.

These are only three ideas. I'd like to hear more. Please let me know what you think. My inspiration was Volo's Guide to All Things Magical. Those of you who are familiar with the text might be able to help more. Let me know what you think. If I must, I'll provide more information on the artifact if you wish. Thanks.

Must use high elven magics to destroy the non-weave created phylactry.

Must be placed in the Fugue Plane where Kelvemor himself must destroy and/or Jergal.

Must get the Zulkurs of Thay, the High Mages of Harulla, and the Guild Mages of Waterdeep to cast a coopertive version of Mord's Disjunction.

Finally, summon up a powerful Celestial in the service of Lathander and also another powerful outsider in the Magister to destroy this aritifact in the light of full day and both must cast Destruction.

First, I'd say it must be destroyed by something that is at a minimum imbued with the very essence of another god.

Here's a thought.

Legend lore reveals that there is a small pit, the Chasm of Woe, where the artifact can be destroyed. Casting it down into the pit and into the slime at the bottom will cause it to decay and, after a time, be destroyed.

This pit and the thing within is guarded by a bizarre group of goblin / hobgoblin / bugbear cultists (class the hell out of their leadership...blackguards...rogues...and OOZEMASTERS!!!!). The cultists are a growing threat in the region where the pit lies, indeed none knew of the pit's or goblin's existence before they began raiding the countryside.

If the party wishes to destroy this artifact, they must first contend with the goblin fortress - approach, infiltrate, etc. The goblins will have taken many prisoners and have a series of rituals where they cast nearly everything into the pit - living creatures, magical items they can not use, etc. The generally accepted opinion is that the goblins feed the "thing" in order to give it power and return it to its true shape and destiny.

Further research tells the party that the pit is rumored to be near the location where Moander met his fate. It is unclear what kind of creature or hazard is in the bottom of the pit, and also unclear what would happen if an artifact of this magnitude were fed to the thing.

Swap one evil thing for another? Dracolich for a Moander-clone?

Thrust the stone into the heart of Lathander (perhaps asking a little too much). Or thinking about it - cast the stone into the sun.

Bathe the stone in the lifes blood of a solar of Selune and a solar of lathander. This is a great way to bring about the destruction of something evil - give the characters the choice to destroy a being of ultimate goodness and destroy the stone.

Craft the stone into a knife then stab Elminster with it. Then go get Drizzt.

Put it in a box and bury it in a dead magic zone. Easy. Just make sure the DM has people dig it up a little later on.

Ummmmm.... it's too late for me. I might have some more inspiration in the morning. Good night all.

Thanks!

Wow, some great ideas!! Especially the idea about insuring another god is involved. That's true enough. The suggestion about the Chasm of Woe bears looking into. Yes, the destruction of the artifact must, at the very LEAST, bring about a whole new campaign. For example, my 5 liches idea would pose a HUGE problem. How difficult would it be to find 5 liches of those faiths? Corellon? Perhaps a baelnorn of Evermeet is the closest candidate. I imagine a lich worshipping Velsharoon MUST be evil, perhaps from Thay. A lich with Azuth as his or her patron might hail from Halruaa, and that might conflict with Thay. Wars could start up!! Great ideas, all. Please, give me more!
