Hey guys. (Yea I see it now, 2 "r"s)

Need help with breaking down the War Troll into class levels.

So seeing as I'm a profound D&D geek sometimes I like to do some mental exercises. Like breaking down the War Troll (MM3) into class levels. I'm using the Savage Species rules...sort of.

Now this thread will be edited/updated every time I want to ask you guys something, so that I don't start a new thread for each and every problem.

a.) What level should the WT increase in size to Large? (it has HD12 and 6LA).

Usually an increase in size from medium to large happens around 4 or 5 RHD. (usually around 4th, 5th or 6th level). If you look in savage species youll see that many monsters that are large gain their large status around level 4 or 5 (if you look at the savage species monster classes monster gain their first 3 or 4 RHD really quick then it levels out according to its LA penalty).

Dazing blow is maybe around level 12 or 13. If you look at the astral deva from savage species it has a similar ability gained at level 12 (albeit the astral deva ability is not as good).

EDIT: NO REND Look at feral creature template to find a good level for rend.
look at troll for scnt progression

If you look at the troll in savage species regeneration is gained slowly (starting at level 4 at regeneration 1; going to regen 3 at lv 9, regen 5 at lv 11; you could use those numbers but at level say 14 regen 7 at level say 18 regen 9.

DR/admantine: DR is gained around level 5-10 usually, growing from there.... I would give it DR 2/adamantine at level5, DR 3 at level 7, DR 4 at level 9, DR 5 at level 11 (but that may be a slow progression, maybe think of giving the DR at lower levels)

SR: War troll have SR 8+HD (alternatively class level +2)... SR is usually gained around level 5-10 similar to DR.... But many creatures (like drow etc, gain DR fairly quick, drow are ECL 3)... So maybe gain SR at level 4 or 5 since it is a fairly low SR...

Monstrous Humanoids have Figther BAB; good REF and good WILL; and 2+INT skills per HD;
Give darkvision 9ft and lowlight vision at level 1.

NA: +14 NA total; if you want to space it out really even then pick 4 levels it doesnt gain an NA increase (maybe level 4, 8, 12, 16). Every other level it gains +1 to NA.

ABILITY MODS: +20 STR, +6 DEX, +18 CON, -2 INT, +4 WIS, +0 CHA
(I usually give all penalties at level 1 and space out the rest in +2 increments rather evenly)
