I ran an encounter with centipedes last session saturday night, and it was great. 1st level party with 5 members, and they were heading north through Bloodstone Gate into the warehouse district, trying to get work. They were heading through a small market district just south of that. I loved the part when I described this:
"The street is completely empty (players "uh-oh" - DM

behind screen). The wind drones through it, and everything is silent. Suddenly, a piercing scream is heard as a girl runs out from a shop door up the street, on the left-hand side. A massive, thick centipede is worming it's way around her, lost in the folds of her clothing. Suddenly a sickly POP is heard as the bug rips out from her stomach, drenching the street before her in blood just before she falls atop the wet ground."
The dwarven cleric charges and squishes the bug easily with his Battlehammer, adn they headed into the cobblers shop. A hand is on the countertp, moving. The Half-orc barb goes behind the counter and cheerfully squishes another bug (with his Battleaxe, because his Weapon-Focused Glaive won't be easy to wield in here). Going down a hallway, he sees a pit in the floor, and jumps across it. Too bad there is no support where he lands and he falls down into a pit - Glavie, Battleaxe and all. He looks both ways and is surprized to see corridoors either way - with squirming masses of centipedes either way. He leans his Glaive up and calls for someone to get him some rope - and fast! The Elven Duelist rushes out to find some (and does after a bit) and comes back in. The half-orc is fending off nasty bugs left, right and center. The dwarven Cleruic steels himself and helps the Half-orc up. Centipedes start crawling up the glaive and everyone spends several rounds squishing these (larger) centipedes. Half-orc makes to go to the pit to snatch up his polearm, just as a massive centipede peeks over the edges, feelers searching everywhere. The glaives buisness end clangs onto the floor and the bug chomps on the last vestiges of the weapon. Half-orc screams curse at that damned bug, as it gets jerks vilolently back into the pit! Once! Twice! Thrice! He looks ove rthe edge to see a Huge centipede filling the entire pit, eating the other bug. Party gets freaked out and retreats out of store and see a huge, hulking warrior running down the street - a shield with Tempus' symbol emblanzoned on it, a massive sword in hand, froth pooring out of his mouth, his face red and enraged and his furhide boots clomping on the ground as his chainmail clanks. The centipede bursts out through the shops front just as the berserker arrives, slicing into it again and again - taking off feelers, legs and finally half of it's face/head.
Awesome D&D meet, despite me being sick as a dog
