Need help with Called shots rules

If the player misses by less than 4 (against said finger), they hit the giant but do not gain the Called Shot effect.

But thats just crazy. That way theres no reason not to try going for a called shot every time. This will lead to a world where the most effective combat style is wielding a Scythe and going for called head shots with every attack.

Someday soon you will go home to visit Mom and Dad, but Dad will be gone, and Mom will smile, and say, "Eberron is your new daddy," and Eberron will walk out smoking a pipe and say, "Give me a hug, son."

And you better hug Eberron, man. You better hug Eberron.

Damn Felonius thats disturbing - get some help man! :D

My gaming group discussed it and we don't use them. You're always trying to get the best shot and every attack could be considered a called shot. Critical hits are when you actualy make it. If you really wanted to do something like cripple or blind an opponent, it would be a separate feat. Not the most realistic, but workable within the non-realistic combat rules.

But that's usually how it happens. Lots of styles emphasis hitting vital areas (like the inside of the thigh, to hit the femorial artery [sorry if I botched the spelling]. You'd bleed out in a matter of seconds). Even our military focuses on 'making every shot count'. Besides, the target would still have to fail the Fort save (sorry if I forgot to mention that). Hitting a leg doesn't require special training (but having the feat would mean the target wouldn't get a save, such as the feats in Song & Silence).

In retrospect, I agree that a missed called shot is just a miss, not a hit to the main body.

Sorry if it seems like I'm arguing. I just tend to agree with my players on this (that a person is out of a fight long before they die). Feats can be used to improve the chances, but the option can still exist.
