D&D 5E Need help with inspiration for class change

Tales and Chronicles

Jewel of the North, formerly know as vincegetorix
OK, short story. I'm currently a player in an OotA campaign with two other players, sometime three and I'm getting bored with the campaign and the table ambiance at the same time, its just seem like both of those things arent as fun anymore. I'd like to hear new ideas to make an interesting character, because I cant seem to find the inspiration. Before just quitting I'd like to give my character a last chance by giving him a new spin. My character is a dwarf devotion paladin, taken prisoner with Eldeth, the dwarven scout from the game. He swore an oath to protect his ''new warband'', to see the kingdom of Delzoun reborn and to further the cause of the dwarf-kind. Last game, we fought a bunch of manta ray thingies on a barge on the dark lake and we lost like half of the NPC still with us. During this fight, I lost my weapon and dropped my armor to go for a swim and kill thing, and still I killed half the enemies with my bare hands (three crits in a row!). Disheartened by the lost of this many NPC, I swore to never rest until my body rested with those left behing under the earth and told that I felt I lost the honor to bear arms in the name of the great Dwarfhome. At the same time, I dont like playing paladins and I ask to change my class to something more I'll find more interesting.

So, in your opinion, what would be a fun (maybe unusual) build for this character story going forward? In the end I might just quit, but this is a ''build of the last chance'' kind of thing.

I was thinking about maybe a kensei with axe for a devout of Clanggedin, dwarf god of war and battlefield death, longdeath monk related to Dumanthoin, god of subterranean exploration and those dead under the earth to honnor the men/women/creature I left behind, or a berserker to play the death-wish dwarf.

Tell us more about what you like to do. Dont think of it in class terms but in actions. Do you like swinging a sword, do you like few big hits or many small ones. do you like shrugging off a beating or dodging entirely, or having your armor deflect the blows. Do you like sneaking or clanging around. Things like that. We can better help you if we know what you like. Your idea of the devout of clangeddon can just as easily be represented as a Kensei or a Barbarian for example. There might be other options out there you havent considered because of the name and not what it actually does.

Maybe its because I've played this game for a long time and I'm a compulsive character builder, but for I'm out of inspiration on this one. Generally speaking, I love being in the middle of the fight and I think going unarmored could be different and fun. On this point, I dont really care about optimization, so I would not be afraid to play a fighter without armor, or a barbarian without weapon. I think I might be looking for something a little more exotic to shake this feeling of déjà vu. I never played full-spellcasters and just got Xanathar's, so maybe a Divine Soul, or maybe my character actually died by drowning in the Darklake (he spent numerous rounds fighting underwater; suffocation rules in 5e are strange) and came back as a Shadow Sorcerer or Undying warlock.

barbarian does unarmed surprisingly well either battlerager or frenzy for the bonus action attack. do 1+str+rage damage until you get tavern brawler feat.
