Here's the situation I could use a lot of input on.
While running a session of Arcana Unearthed my players were exploring a Dramohj ruin and found a room a bit earlier than I had expected (though that's not necessarily a bad thing). Their characters are 1st level.
The room is 25 feet side to side, 20 feet front to back, one door in.
Within the room are several rusty steel poles running floor to ceiling seeminly randomly placed. Each pole has jagged spikes and blades jutting out from them also seemingly randomly placed.
Along the walls and ceiling are "blocks" of script written in abyssal (which nobody in the party understands). These blocks of script are sometimes joined by lines like a flowchart to other blocks of script.
Touching a block causes it to glow and stand out in a 3d fashion and it can thus be dragged and dropped onto other blocks of script. Through this method they will eventually be able to match up some of the writings to open a portal into a further area of the dungeon.
My idea was to have the writings be from some unholy texts. Matching them would be challenging, but not impossible. Once they match a few the portal would activate. Just for a challenge I would have a few mismatches cause effects in the room such as heating of some barbed poles, freezing of others, difficulty getting around the obstacles to drag text to its matching partners, etc.
Any ideas for what some of the text could say are appreciated. That's the part I have the mst difficulty coming up with when creating challenges of this sort. It doesn't have to be anything they'll ever deal with in the future, it just has to add to the atmosphere and make them feel they've accomplished something. They are already planning to copy text down and go find someone who can read it.
Thanks!
