Need help with Riddle.

First Post
Standing in the depths of a temple in the middle of Anauroch before an undead whose meant to guard ‘the greatest treasure know to man’, you are asked a question.

"To proceed, answer me this, What is the nature of power?"

It’s a one word answer, not wanting a definition. After much thought I have come to conclude that it is ‘authority’. If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them.

Thanks,
Aerbrax

Also I wanted to comment that I believe the adventure comes from an older Dragon magazine. I'm not sure what the adventure is called, except I know it starts with "The Forgotten ....." Our DM gave us any means necessary to find the answer which is why I’ve posted here. Supposedly the answer has something in common with all the adventureres and the temple. We've faced many tests (not encounters) on our journey through the temple also.

Thanks,

Yes any help with solving this riddle would be appricatied considering it is solove it or die. And I really like my character in this game.

What is the nature of power?

hmm.. I think I'd have answered "Corrupts", as per the old saying Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Thucydides would say that it is human nature to seek power, so "Nature" might be your answer.

BFG and Yoda say that Power is usually acheived through fear ( Fear IS the root of all evil my friends !)

BUT:

DMG 3.5 says that your DM should just assign a DC for an INT modified die roll to allow your characters to answer correctly. When your character is trapped under a wagon, does your DM ask YOU to lift the refridgerator or your PC dies?
