Need help with Riddle.

no monsters? that definately means it isnt something like strength. What is the greatest Treasure? Do you know? and also is this a good or an evil temple. if its evil I cant really see the answer being corrupts, although it is a good idea.

Just my opinion though.

We found this temple in the middle of the Anaorch desert. Its is in the shape of a pyramid, guarded by 4 extremely large stone statues on each side. Our first test was to show more honor than the statues, so we awoke all the statues at once and fought all 4 of them at once instead of just awkening them one at a time and all jumping the same one. After beating them, this large orb sucked the light from the sky and shot a huge bolt of light down onto the pyramid. The walls of it disentegrated, leaving an open area life half a mile by half a mile. There was a large entrance guarded by more statues but those did not come to life. There we traps we had to overcome in the entrance (another test), and after getting past those we ran into paragon skeletons (another test) which we defeated. We had to walk into a pool for fire(another test) to have our souls cleansed and then lay in a pool of water(another test) to have our bodies cleansed. Then we had to defeat some bone golems guarding the entrance (another test) to a stairway leading to a lower level. Then we had to each fight evil clones (another test) of ourselfs and whichever one won is now with the party. If a PC lost their spirit when into the evil clones body and will have to fight in order to control it eventually. Next we had to run a guantlet (another test) that 10 statues guarded and all came to life to kill us, we had to neutralize the statues in order to pass that room. This is where we ended the room with this undead sitting on a throne who asked us the question.

The is a 'good' campign even tho some of the characters act shadey. The DM isnt allowing for knowledge checks because he wanted us to try and figure it out. There is a good possibility that we will die if we give the wrong answer.

Thanks guys for the responses.

Power is Dominion.

All power comes from being able to make others bend to your wishes and preventing others from making you do things.

If I had only one shot at this riddle I would say "Responsibility", and if that wasn't it and it would result in TPK, then I would point at the DM and laugh.

There's just not enough info in that riddle to be able to get a solution lock. What I define as a solution lock is when after you found the answer, rethinking about the riddle convinces you that there can be no better answer.

Here's an example:

"The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end,
And the end of every place."

Many know that riddle. The answer is
the letter "E"
.

Once you have the answer, you re-read the riddle, and it's very obvious that this is the answer. If the riddle would only have been "The beginning of eternity", then the answer, even when found, isn't solution locked. Bad do-or-die riddle, no challenge.

I concur. I mean, no clues whatsoever? And with a TPK on the line? That seems so odd that it makes me think you guys have missed something. Have you thoroughly invstigated the pyramid? What kind of undead is asking this question. Do you know who the BBEG is?

The Anauroch was once home to Netheril and it's incredible magic. Perhaps the answer is "magic" ?

I dunno. Very strange predicament. Good Luck. :)

p.s. When will you play out this endgame? Keep us posted.

I gotta vote for this one, though my PC's life isn't on the line...

If you all fail just form a party of bards, become wandering minstrels and plague him with Bardic knowledge checks.

:D hehe.......

I like this answer as well, but it seems so simple (which may be what their DM is doing to them - something that is such a colloquialism couldn't possibly be the answer... or could it! (cue evil laughter)

We play tonight in a few hours. We'll either answer correctly or we will go down fighting. Our DM probably won't do a TPK but it'll be close.

And the Ancient Empire of Netheril fell because one man was corrupted by the power he had and sought godhood... further supporting my belief it is "corrupts". :)
