Need help with riddle

First Post
My creative juices are running low and I need some help.

We've been using the Nightfang Spire module and decided that there must have been some way into the tower before the Black Dragon melted a hole in the roof. Since teleportation takes place in some areas of the dungeon we decided that the menhirs (standing stones) outside of the defile could have a teleport activated by a password.

I wanted to have the password be the answer to a riddle that the party might find scribbled somewhere in the dungeon.

The tower was originally used by cultists worshipping a colossal red dragon by the name of Ashardalon.

Any ideas?

Do you prefer something dark and brooding or something more traditional and Tolkeinesque?

There is no way into the tower without the password.

Therefore there is no reason to disguise the password if it's written within the tower.

So I'd have the riddle written on something that might get taken outside the tower, and have the word something vaguely associated with the cult, but not obvious. Having the password being the number of years before ashardalon was prophecied to come back would be a good one, especially since it requires extra research to find out when the tower was built (and therefore when the password was set)...

The cult that inhabited the tower would have been the dark and brooding type.

I probably tend to go more towards the Tolkeinesque (or truth be told Dr. Suess). So either would be fine by me. I'm pretty happy to get my hands on anything.

The fire riddle (thanks dogbrain) is better than anything I've come up with yet. But then again - I've been stuck in a nursery rhyme mode. Some piece that the cult members used to indoctrinate their children I guess - sigh - that's stretching things a bit probably.

Sagiro, damn his oily hide, used the nastiest trick ever on us. We killed a tower's guardian. When we couldn't figure out the password to get inside, we cast speak with dead to ask the guardian... and he burbled out "I do not remember the password" with a throaty chuckle. We spent two days of game time and about four hours real time trying different methods of finding the answer.

And as it turns out, the password was "I do not remember the password."

Bastard. We threw food at him.

Ah yes, Het Branoi. Wonderful tactic - unfortunately for me a few of my players are fans of Sagiro's Storyhour. . .
and Sepulchraves. . .
and yours.

But at least I know if they throw food - I've done good.

My first response to this thread's title was, "What did I do this time?!"

OK, then. How about, "I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 10..."
Too vague.

"What's your favorite color?"
Nah, too cliche.

"Finish this sentence: 'No garden, one ******.'" (It's a palindrome.)

Here's a related puzzler: "'Two plus eleven' and 'one plus twelve' have 13 things in common. What are they?" (Their letters; it's an anagram.)
