need help with the first Adventure of my Village Campaign

I will soon start my new Campaign, wich will be my first one that plays in just one location (Village + Surrounding Area) instead of traveling around the world. I will use Arrowflight (Fantasy) together with "The Village of Briarton". As I said, I never GM'd a Village based Campaign before and I have a new player in my group and so I would need a bit of help with my first Adventure.

Characters:
-) Fairy (the 10 inch height, winged type) Price who lives in the Village for 2 or 3 years just out of curiosity about the big sized humans
-) A Gnome Gadgeteer who will come with a Zeppelin but will crash near the Village and have to be there for some time, at least until the reapairs are done.
-) A 30+ year old Human with Amnesy, who doesn't even remember his own name.

Overall Plot:
(I'm not completly fixed on this) There are is a "good" temple in that town and a second, "evil" one outside (only known to a few followers). The two god's usually don't care for each other but neighter one wanted to give this village to the other and so they decided that each send someone who should win the village for him.

But before they will finish the Miracle, the Gnom will accidentally interfear and so they are not complete. The good Hero will be without his memory (Character) and don't know why he is there (the player have also no clue) and the evil one (a Fighter and Leader) will have no Body (Ghostlike, cannot do harm to anyone).

Over the course of the campaign the Player will get more and more clues about what happend and who the Amnesy-Character is and they will have to save the Village from the evil Cult.

The beginning of my first Adventure will be when the gnome arrives and see strange light and will get struck by a lighting bolt .... he will crash and find a naked man (the third player) but now I'm unsure what to do for the first adventure. I want a nice introduction to the village and it's inhabitants (at least some of them)... I thought of getting them together in the tavern (several townfolk there) and have some mystery happen there so that they have to talk with them but I'm not sure how too pull this of and if this is even a good idea....

P.S.: What do you think about the Amnesy Character ... should he be a reborn hero of old times, should he be someone new just created from the mind of the deity or should he some sort of Champion who was summond (teleported) here?

I hate to ask, but do you have a plan for when the characters decide to leave the village? Players ALWAYS do the thing that the DM doesn't want. :D

Also, why is this one village so important that the Gods are fighting over it?

I think that for the first adventure, an assassin inspired by the ghostlike fighter should try to kill the PC with amnesia.

One thing I try to do when starting up a new game is have the first couple of adventures to be fairly basic, that way you get a sense of the players style, ect.. You also might want to get player feedback on where they want the game to go.
 

They will not leave the town in the near future, first I talked about the campaign up front and everyone agreed that a village-based Campaign would be quite interesting and the Characters have to be there for a while:

- The Fairy live there
- The Gnome's Vessel Crashed and it will take a while till he has every part that he need for the Repair
- The third one don't remember everything and the best chances for him to change that is to stay in the place where he lost his memory

The Village is not very important at all, the gods are only stubborn and don't want to give it up and the village is quite prosperous and could easily grow into a city soon.
 

Besides, I like the Idea with the Assassin, but I'm not sure if it isn't too early for that? Any other Ideas?
