I have this idea to use intelegent wolves and characters in a D&D based setting. I have developed special classed made just for wolf characters, wolf-like characters, or general animal-type characters. I have a few ideas for plot but I am looking for more insperation. If anyone could throw a few plot ideas, subplots, or general conflict ideas at me that would be great.

I have the idea of the classic enchanted woods where a human character finds himself and begins tuning into a wolf unless he gets out before night fall. (this will be unavoidable by default). But I am not sure if that is a good idea, maybe I should just have the PC start a new character as a wolf (an intelegent veriety capable of speaking thier own language but common in unknown to them. Can't think of a good name for this race.) I curently have to races of wolves, the intelegent wolves and half-wargs.

ANY idead in this general concept is welcome but I realy need plot ideas and conflict, i.e. main villan or evil force, ect.

Who are the good guys and the bad guys?

If the wolves are the bad guys, you have a werewolf movie going on there. Fight the monsters while trying not to become one yourself. etc.

If the wolves are the good guys, what part of people are you trying to show in relief? Like, people in the modern world are out of touch with what really matters and all they care about is money. Wolves are the real deal, though. They "get it, man!" The evil guys are artistocrats who lord over their pitiful serfs in great black towers and ride out in a great black hunt to kill anyone and everyone they see - especially the wolves.

Also: what are the players going to be doing?

Will they fight the hordes of werewolves who threaten to overcome their peaceful town?

Will they fight against the werewolves and the beasts that they will become now that they have been infected? Searching for a cure (in vain?) across dark, forbidding woods.

Will they fight alongside the werewolves (or as werewolves) against the evil humans?

What will they be doing at 1st level - who are they fighting, what kind of treasure are they after? Why are the "adventuring" (if they are even adventuring at all)?

Same questions at 5th level. How do things get more intense? How will you make tougher fights? Better loot? How will you make them answer deeper questions about their feral nature? Why are they continuing to adventure?

Same questions every 5 levels on (or so).

Hope that helps at least some!

So what is this Wolf's Rain in D&D then? Mmm...Wolf's Rain d20 would be rather interesting...

Better if you used BESM rules though.

The wolves are not werewolves; just smart wolves in the classic D&D setting alongside all other creatures in the monster manual. I have no new name for this new wolf type, but their just have the same intelligence modifier as warg and the same ability to speak. They have no knowledge of human because they dwell in a DEEP forest. They have conflict with the warg in the surrounding areas and have distrust toward half-wargs (from a wolf parent and a warg parent). But when a mysterious something begins encroaching on their territory and into their woods the keepers of faith (wolf equivalent of the cleric, one with the spirits of their ancestors), begin to insist that someone got and investigate and possible halt the intrusion.

This involves ALL wolf a half-warg characters a PCs with specially adapted and altered wolf versions of the classic classes.

Dark wolf - warlock (not generally trusted among other wolves)
Keeper of Faith - Cleric
Aggressor - Fighter
Hunter - Ranger
Shamanic Shifter - Druid
Song Howler - Bard
Mystic - Sorcerer
Rage wolf - Barbarian

Another Hitch I have hit on is defense and damage. I humanoid character can get better armor and better magic weapons and items. Wolves can't use any of this unless assisted with a humanoid creature with opposable thumbs. I may have to lighten up the encounters to keep balance unless I come up with some believable (word used loosely since this is a fantasy setting) method to compensate for this.

Forgive my ignoance, but what is BESM?

Big Eyes, Small Mouth, an anime-esque RPG from Guardians of Order. An excellent system, by the way. They have several liscenced anime books out and one would think it would be only a matter of time until they get to Wolf's Rain.

Sounds like an interesting campaign. We haven't seen much in the way of 'talking animal' campaigns at all.

I'd first suggest some research in wolves and packs. That alone should suggest a number of plot lines.
