Need scenario help

I could use some help or ideas on a scenario I am working on. Through a confluence of events the party I DM for were able to use a extradimensional holding box as a gateway to an out of phase magical tower,(basically an etheral tower reached by placing a bag of holding inside the extradimensional box along with an artifact from the tower).

As they have finished with the tower I believe they will use dispel magic to cause a temporary disruption and reform from the box. The box unbenowst by them has been acquired by an enemy of theirs a scion of a wealthy and highly magical noble family. Basically when they reform I want them to be etherial.
The box will be held in a magically warded room.

I am thinking of a scenario similiar to star wars, where they need to deactivate the wards around the room, to let the box function again and to allow them to regain comporal form. The twist is of course they are etheral and have limited abillity to effect the material plane. A further twist is it will become quite obvious to the party that when they do become coporeal again, they can be quite overwhelmed by the defenses of this manor house.
With these parameters in mind anyone care to offer some intresting encounters or ideas?

Do you want the magically warded room to keep them in its environs, or can they roam ethereally with the box trapped in the room?

Also, the family knows that the PCs are somehow trapped within the box, right?
