Need sequel to Slaughtergarde

Rafael Ceurdepyr

First Post
My group will be finishing up Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde within a couple of weeks, and I'm looking for an adventure to follow it up with. They will be about 7th level. I have already scattered some clues throughout Slaughtergarde about a "green woman" seen in the Shul Vaath area (as the rumored presence in the Vaathwood) and the ruins of a tower built by a green dragon. Since Slaughtergarde has to do with the Abyss, and one of my players has expressed interest in traveling to another plane (which we've never done before), I'd ideally like the adventure to take place in the Abyss. I can create something myself, but before I do, I'd like to know what you've used as a sequel to this module OR what Abyssal adventures are available out there.

Thanks!

Hell-spike Prison form the Fantastic Locations series might work well, but I'm not sure what levels it's for. You could also bridge them into the Shakled City adventure path or Red Hand of Doom.

Expedition to Castle Ravenloft is for levels 6-10. You could place some sort of item that they need to get to the Abyss in Barovia to lead them into the adventure.

By the way, I'm starting a new campaign and was think of using the Shattered Gates to start with. How did the module work for you?

Ooo, thanks for the idea, ScotMartin! I have one player in particular who would love for me to use Ravenloft.

My party has thoroughly enjoyed Shattered Gates. They have pronounced it "quintessentially D&D", which is praise from them. We usually play hybrid or homebrewed stuff, not any dungeon crawls, which is what it essentially is. The setting is nice, too, in that it has lots of hooks. My favorite part is that I've been able to pick it up and run it without too much advance prep. I highly recommend it.

Well, if you can find something to take up your time between levels 7 and 10, I'm pretty sure that Expedition to the Demonweb Pits should be out in another month or two. That should satisfy your desire for an extraplanar/Abyssal adventure, I would think. :)

Ohhh, yes, I've had my eye on that one. I'm looking forward to it! Thanks for mentioning it.

In the meantime, I may end up modding some Planescape adventures.

This would work very well. EtCR is quite good, by the way; I just finished running it for my group this past weekend and it was suitably dramatic! If you liked the reduced prep time for SGoS, you will similarly enjoy EtCR (and I expect for EttDP as well). Also, without going into plot spoilers, you will find a few demonic extraplanar folks that you could easily tie into your Slaughtergarde bits and then into Demonweb, to link a common thread between the modules.
