And Rowan Atkinson ("Mr. Bean," "BlackAdder") played the Doctor in a one-shot special called "Doctor Who and the Curse of the Fatal Death," I believe. (I've never seen it - is it as good as it sounds?)

As mentioned in previous threads, I think Eccleston was a great transition from no Doctor to having a Doctor. Fairly Tom Baker-ish, comfortable and acceptable to old fans and new.

Tennant, though, is much better. It becomes more and more clear as the season progresses that he's truly a great Doctor, imo. Quite possibly my favorite, now.

I think jumping from no Doctor to Tennant would have been a tougher transition, though, because his personality is more "out there," and it's quite possible that older fans would have rejected him without Eccleston as an in-between.

All-in-all, I think it worked out great!

Yes this pretty much agres with my list (I was young when Troughton was Doctor so don't really recall his episodes well but I did like his character

Good Doctors:
4) William Hartnell
5) Jon Pertwee
6) Paul McGann

I'd add Eccleston to this list

and must admit that I have a soft spot for McCoy - he could have been good if only the writers were better (plus Ace was hot)

Could-have-been-better Doctors:

7) Colin Baker
8) Christopher Eccleston
9) Sylvester McCoy
10) Peter Davison (captain boring!)

Bottom of my list is Colin Baker (hated him), Davidosn was as you say boring but nice....

And let us not forget the Grand Moff Doctor: Peter Cushing! (Played in a couple of movies that no one considers canon.)

Yes! I remember those movies playing on the TV from so long ago. That was my first exposure to the Doctor as well as daleks.

Three that I know of: Roger Delgado (the original, and for my money the best), Peter Pratt (the lich-like version from "The Deadly Assassin"), and Anthony Ainley (the "I stole Nyssa's father's body and now I have a new regeneration cycle" version from "The Keeper of Traken" and on).

There was another one in the Keeper of Traken pre-Tremas, and another in the TV movie. That would be five.
