Needed: Good Monster Books!

Epiclevel39

First Post
I would like some help with some ideas and or good books that anybody may know of. I play 3rd/3.5 edition D&D and need some help on a sort-of "new" or different Monster Manual. I have used most of the monsters that actually matter in the core Monster Manual and am looking for something a littler different. Any ideas on what books you use/are good.

Thanks,

Fiend Folio is good, for interesting creatures that are different from what your players might expect. Liber Bestarius is as well, especially for a planar type game. Oriental Adventures has tons of new, cool creatures -- although not technically a monster book. Monster Manual II is a nice workaday monster book, especially for that traditional D&D fare.

By far, though, my favorite monster books are Monsternomicon by Privateer Press and the Legions of Hell/Armies of the Abyss set by Green Ronin. Those are really unique, but really usable, and come built in with adventure hooks to keep you playing for years.

My two favorites are the Monsternomicon and the Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary.

The Fantasy Bestiary is expensive, but it's a huge book with a high ratio of good monsters...

I'm still lookin' for that baby. Care to comment a bit on Penumbra's book? What's it like that sets it apart (other than the price? :D)

What he said. :)

If you want a 3.5-designed monster book, Kenzer just came out with Dangerous Denizens, which was reviewed in a positive way here on EN World.

Or another notion...

...make up your own monsters :D

Okay, I know I am in the minority that way, but I dislike all the monster tomes to date; very few critters really fit my style of play ;)

*gasp* I mean, wow... I know play styles and tastes vary, and I'm not gonna be the one to question you on that, but literally none of them appeal to you at all? That's mind-boggling to me given the range of what's out there!

You sir, are a man of incredibly selective tastes.
