Negative Energy Protection?

I just bought Libris Mortis, and I'm reading through it. On page 21 there's talk about how it isn't easy to protect oneself from ability damage or drain, and it got me thinking.

There's a spell in the PHB called Death Ward, which gives the following protection.

From SRD 3.5

The subject is immune to all death spells, magical death effects, energy drain, and any negative energy effects.This spell doesn’t remove negative levels that the subject has already gained, nor does it affect the saving throw necessary 24 hours after gaining a negative level.
Death ward does not protect against other sorts of attacks even if those attacks might be lethal.

Does that "any negative energy effects" include Ability Damage? I mean this spell protects from Energy Drain. Says so right there, but I can't find one that specifically states that it protects against Ability Damage.

only those listed as being negative energy based. Things fitting one of those categories are generally spelled out in the description.

I cross-checked against the MM, and found what I was looking for .

Now to my next question:

Are there any other spells, besides Death Ward, which protect against negative energy effects? I'm just curious since I have a party of 4th level characters who are about to meet their first Shadow, and it would be nice if the party Cleric could whip up some kind of protection against the Shadow's touch attack, which causes Strength Damage.

This is not quite the answer you're looking for, but it answers your question in a way...

Consult your copy of Libris Mortis or check the Planar Handbook and you'll find the spell "Protection from Negative Energy", which protects you from "nergative energy effects", meaning hit point damage *... and nothing else*
