Neopets: WotC's next big hit?

Gah! My loony x-g/f tried getting me into those things over a year ago. I basically just battled her twinked out pets and got my butt waxed. She and I broke up and I haven't returned to the site since. I'm sure the little buggers have starved to death by now. I dunno, this just seems like the next game fad, after Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, Mageknight and all the rest. I guess WoTC might as well milk it for what it's worth, as that's what these fads seem to exist for anyway.

Although the game did give me a purple penguin with a mask of ancient evil and gun that shot rainbows, so I guess it can't be all bad. :p

Go to the site http://www.neopets.com.

It's actually not too bad. I played it a bit for a couple of months. It didn't take too long for the thrill to wear off because the site really requires you to nose around a _lot_ to find the cool things for the uber-game.

Still, it's got a few cool games to play there and a bunch of kid-friendly stuff.

Both of the Gelflings are major neopets addicts.

I played the TCG at Origins and GenCon, and the gelflings both checked it out at GenCon and loved it.

It is simple, easy to play, yet I see it working a lot like Magic in the long run, being quite customizable.

Its a rather frightening online Virtual Pet thingy.

A fair number of my coworkers are addicted to it.

Go to the site to see for yourself.

Oh my gawd they are adorable...

Like, frighteningly so. Still, I don't do well with the whole virtual pet thing. Downloaded virtual pets always either die horrid deaths or become rabid. Robotic dogs and cats batteries die and they always seem to have the skull in their eyes indidcating that I've killed them.

Weird. I can handle a real pet, but not the fake ones. Cute though. I see this being the next Pokemon and I fear for the sanity of toy store employees everywhere...

Oh yes, fear for their Sanity.

The Gelflings brought home three toy Neopets from GenCon. They are the most adorable toys I have ever had the pleasure to watch chit-chat back and forth among themselves on my living room floor.

ADORABLE.

And easily quite annoying after a few minutes... they are just so bloody cheerful and chatty...
