New 3.5 SRD database

First Post
Hello all,

I've spent the last couple of months compiling the 3.5 SRD into a database version compatible with tgslabs' 'GSNotes'. The good news is that it's totally free, and they also have a free reader, so you don't even have to pay to use it.

It is the complete SRD, fully indexed in a 'tree' and completely hyperlinked. (For example, you can click on 'outsider' in a monster's entry and be taken directly to the page containing the outsider traits, or a spell says the target becomes 'staggered', you can click and be taken to the definition and effects of being staggered. All the skills from every monster/spell entry are linked. Every spell reference is linked. Pretty much every link I could think of -- in fact I might have gone overboard on some pages :) )

I finished the entire document about 2 weeks ago and have used in at my game now for the last couple sessions, and it really cut down on time spent combing the books.

You can see what the database all contains and some sample images here:

and you can download the FREE reader here:

Any feedback would be helpful, as I'll try to update any problems/errors that users may find.

Thanks, and I hope it helps!!!

Hey, you pre-empted me by a few days. :)

I'm developing an offline searchable version of the SRD myself. I've downloaded and tried your version, and I found that the search function is somewhat limited. I tried "archmage" and no results were found. Does it only search the current page?

Also, how did you do the hypertext linking? Is it limited to the topics in the Contents window? It's a problem I am having right now, since "Air" can mean domain or subtype, for example.

Anyway, I'm releasing soon, and I hope we can compare notes.

If you go to Edit>>Find in File (or Alt+F7) that will search the entire document. I typed in 'archmage' and got 4 'hits'.

Make sure that in the 'scope' box you have 'All Document Types' and 'In All Documents of the File' checked.

Well, this is why the database took me so long to finish (I started in late March, and have worked at least 4 hours every day -- some of that at work ;) -- to finish in 4 months time)

Anyway, I did every hyperlink individually by context. Yep, I read every page of the SRD and manually hyperlinked terms based on their context.

I'm sure there's an easier way, but...I know ALL the rules like the back of my hand now!

Let me know when you have your database done - I'd love to take a look at it!
