Guns = not medieval sword and sorcery = nope.

Replace the gun with a bow and make the character an elf and maybe you've got something.

I hope you were being sarcastic.

D&D doesn't have to be medieval swords and sorcery.

I don't think that split the tree is really sensical for a gunslinger.

I could see it working for later-era firearms, ie: repeating rifles and revolvers.

But yeah, I agree with Mourn it should be a distinct class, not a rehash Ranger.

Arguably, not guns = not medieval, so I wonder why so many people have such an aversion to them. Certainly, a fantasy hero with a gun is at least a little less cliche and overdone than an elf with a bow, though it is common enough in its own right these days... I've got nothing against guns in fantasy myself.

Though, I admit I am struggling to ignore a FFT version of Balthier in that image. His existence in the re-release of that game is a crime.

It may not be S&S, or medieval in any way, but it still is 4E.

I think the OP point was that it may turn out to be a lot easier to develop any kind of pulp setting in any time period without a huge effort. And if you are willing to put in the effort, you may have yourself a really neat set of rules.

Aside from the fact that FFXII's storyline doesn't seem to occur at the same time as the War of the Lions, Balthier done up in FFT-style art is awesome.

Also, there were guns in FFT, so it's not like his appearance breaks the versimilitude of the setting.
