New Arch Devils for hell

Fallen Phoenix said:
Hi

I am soon creating a new campaign in which Asmedous calls down the second reckoning.
I am interested to hear everyone's Ideas on new Rulers of Hell.
Please note that I do not expect or even want Devils. any concept that is evil ( or not ), powerful and has a reason to rule a plane of existance is of interest to me.

Thank you in Advance

Ripzerai wrote a seriously cool piece a while back called Tainted by Darkness which I found to be a really cool take on the Lord of the 9th, and the fiends of Baator in general. It seriously rocks and I cannot recommend it enough.

I also ended up writing my own fictional response to that story as well, which is over here involving a being of my own creation named Chorazin the Thrice Damned (the third sibling of the 'Ibn Shartalan' line of the Baernaloths in my own chronicle and expansion of those proto-fiends).

I had fun with that response, and even more so, Rips story really gave me some ideas and notions to work with on another story of mine, involving a Baernaloth known as the Shackler (who serves as a counterpart of sorts in the origin of the Baatezu to the parallel actions of his brother-sister the Flesh Sculptor who did something with the Tanar'ri).

Be very careful of where you're claiming source and credit for things there.

Dagos is canon and a member of the Dark Eight, specifically the Lord of Strategy in the Blood War effort by the Baatezu. He is detailed in Hellbound: The Blood War, among other 2e references, and he appears in the 3e Manual of the Planes.

Zariel is also a canon entity, first appearing but not named in various Planescape sources, and then finally named late in 2e. Zariel is mentioned in the 3e Manual of the Planes. Your version of Zariel deviates from the original obviously, and shares little in common but the alignment and the name, but give credit to the original source nonetheless.

Your right about Dagos, I'm sorry, I forgot.

As for Zariel, yes that is where I got the name. But only the name. Not even the gender is the same. Everthing else I created, and i did not want to give the impression I had just redone or changed this. But your right I guess, I should have mentioned that.

I am curious as to who Dagos, Adremalech, Verrier and Aesmadeva are
also is Zariel from anything or just your own creation
Dagos was created back in 2ed PS as one of the Dark Eight. The Gates of Hell provided full stats and an actual history for him. Zariel was actually named late in 2ed in A Guide to Hell, post PS. Dicefreaks does not recognize her in our cosmology; we've replaced her with Astarte.

Adremalech, Verrier, and Aesmadeva are all Dicefreaks creations as they relate to Giyasfan's write-up. The stats and flavor for the previous two are based upon occultic/mythological references; Aesmadeva is based upon Alastor the Executioner of Hell who first appeared in DRAGON Magazine 75. We took him to a whole new level. Adremalech is an arch-devil (a high end template applied to the hellspawn race), Verrier is a fully advanced hellspawn (a Dicefreaks creation loosely based upon the infernal), and Aesmadeva is a fully advanced paragon pit fiend.

I think the concept idea sounds cool but i would like a bit more information to see what you are thinking

I have a number of other concepts to toss up here if I get the chance tonight. As with anything I do, no stats, just the flavor/fluff/lore etc which is what I value more, and what I have fun writing.

It's a shame that I haven't had the chance to write up the full story for the Shackler yet. I've kind of overextended myself lately, and I just started a new job...

But here's a bit of an excerpt, it might inspire you based on what little there is that's coherent so far. The rest is just a few pages of plot outlines and musings on different aspects of tyranny. And as much as I generally cannot stand the notions from 'Guide to Hell' (it force feeds Zoarastrianism into DnD's Baator, implying a monolithic Good/Evil duality in the cosmology where that concept is frankly alien), I actually intend to pick upon, or maybe just warp and pervert, the notion of the Lord of the 9th, or some incarnation of him, being a fallen LN entity of some sort, mixed with the idea of Asmodeus as a sort of Judas of the Ancient Baatorians depending on how you look at it. And of course, there's a 'loth lurking in the background, though the story is more about the Baatezu/Baatorians than the Baernaloth who has toyed with their genesis over the eons.

The Shackler said:
The Archons had suffered greatly, the Baatorians even more so, and for once their actions were not even prompted by the machinations of the Baern but by pride and zeal. He did not put it out of possibility that one of his brother/sisters had played a hand in goading them though. He hadn’t caused it, but he was reaping the benefits of it nonetheless, and conquest by triumph or default, it mattered little in the end.

Weakened, he played his hand and gave Baator a new king, a new throne, its very own prisoner in a mask of iron to widdle away eternity in his cage of self wrought importance. Baator had subjects, servants, children, slaves, cogs, willing tools, plowshares it would seek to hammer into swords if given the chance, raging against the perversion of its own nature against itself.

It was delicious. The plane itself rebelled under his feet in rage. If he deigned to step upon its soil, its soul, it trembled like the citizens of a great city before their mad emperor, hated and feared, respected and loathed all at once.

Arch Devils

Thank you for the info on Gates of Hell it is great

in canon is there of the Loths who would want to rule a layer of Hell ( assuming that the whole lawful thing wasn't an issue )

Also are there any formians with individual personalities. I would like to have a cross planar invasion of the formians fleeing to baator.

At first, I thought this was a classified. "New Arch Devils for hell" apply on South Street 666. I was half-finished with my application before I saw what this was all about.

Individual personalities... not that I know of. However, you could use a twist and have an entire formian hive be one of the Lords.

Long time ago, I wrote up a creature called Myrmegon (gelugon/formian myrmarch crossbreed), a result of Mephistopheles' experiments in creating less ambitious and more loyal devils. It just occured to me that this nice little experiment could have planted the seeds of formian colonization. Perhaps the myrmegons were, indeed, more loyal - but not to Mephistopheles. Their loyalty was to the formian hive mind. Slowly, as their numbers increased, myrmegons began "abducting" formians from Arcadia and Mechanus (as "slaves"). Eventually, the number of formians reached a critical mass, so to speak, and the new hive mind was born. Tainted with the myrmegons' infernal origins and the environment which gave it birth, the hive mind was nevertheless incapable of turning against Mephistopheles. Thus, it turned its collective consciousness towards the 7th hell and Baalzebul...

Archdevils

Wow the Myrmegon sound like such a cool idea, tell me did you just make up their stats or did you create them using a combination of templates ( if so then which ones ).

I think a hellfire wyrm should make an appearance somewhere. do the rules exist for half hellfire wyrms

At the moment i am considering an efeeti as another pontential ruler

I am stuck for some interesting and unusual mortals who would have the power and desire to rule besides the power hungry spellcaster ( i thought about going with a lich but they seem done to death at the moment )
