Hopefully the show can live through the changes.

I am hoping that the new blood will give the show the spark it needs. I am going to miss Jack , but I miss even more the fact that team seem afraid to step of earth anymore. :\

I thought the season with Jonus was a breath of fresh air. Sometimes you need to shake up the status quo.

Lou Gosset, Jr.? :p

Yeah but will he use the accent?

It's to be noted that both Bridges and Gosset are only recurring characters, though.

.

As it seems, with all major plot threads wrapped up in the last three episodes of season
8 and the big changes in the dynamic and story direction in season 9, the next season
might as easily be seen as a new series. A spinoff. Stargate SG-1 vol. II.

In fact, before the start of season 8 there was talk of it being SG-1's final season (like
season 5, 6 and 7). First of just Atlantis being the successor, but then of a new spinoff.

Now, these new spinoff rumours were just that, rumours, without any real backing
behind them. Someone said something at some con. But one must wonder if this 'new
spinoff' idea simply evolved into season 9. After all, a year back they were saying that
SG-1 would not be SG-1 without RDA and that if he left it would mean the end of the
series, but suddenly that changed.

I think they just thought keeping it as 'SG-1' would be safer than risking a new series,
even if they played with the new series ideas.

.

Latest rumours said:
Micheal Shanks (Daniel Jackson), Christopher Judge (Teal'c) and Ben Browder (Cameron
Mitchell) will most likely appear in all 20 episodes of the season.

Amanda Tapping (Sam Carter) will be in 15. This is because of he pregnancy.

RDA (Jack O'Neill) seems to have at least agreed to 4 appearances. Last I knew, they
are trying to negotiate for more. Even if only in small guest/cameo appearances.

Claudia Black (Vala) will be in a 5 episode arc in the beginning of the season that
jumpstarts the new plotlines.

I remember reading somewhere that Bridges will be in about half of the episodes. Dunno
about Gosset. Probably not decided yet.

.

As for what the new plotlines are rumoured to be:
To explore the origin, culture and fall of the Ancients/Gatebuilders. Somehow the legend
of Camelot will tie into it.

Sometimes it is good for a show to ride off into the sunset. That time is now methinks for SG1. Right now Atlantis is the better show hands down, Beau Bridges and Louis Gosset Jr is not exactly knocking my socks off.

Sounds more like a cast for a Ben Gay commercial or Hollywood Squares.

Generals are not supposed to be 20 year olds and Beau Bridges is an execellent actor. As for Louis Gosset JR he is knocking my socks off because he one hell of a fine actor.

I for one am looking forward to next season. Claudia Black being a guest star, Ben Browder becoming a regular. I think it could be just what the show needs.

I would like to go on a rant about ageism but I won't. I will just say this it is to bad that in the US we worship at the altar of youth someting that no one can maintain.
