New Classes in Dawnforge

Durandal

First Post
I know Dawnforge is a bit old, and that it didn't get a lot of support, but I've been fascinated with it for some time and I'm thinking about starting up a game pretty soon. I like the races they use, so I don't think I really want to mess around with that, and I also like the new classes they introduce in the core setting book. I'm wondering, though, if I can't toss a few more classes into the mix. I'm trying to find classes that would fit the flavor of the setting, though, and my Complete books are out on loan to a friend. Does anybody have any ideas for appropriate classes? They don't have to be WotC, as I don't particularly care about the source as long as they are both somewhat balanced and flavorful. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I always have to suggest two base classes whenever people want input.

Dr. Awkward's The Bruiser class is a great acultural punching class. He can tank it right next to the fighter, and lays into his foes with his mighty fists. I personally call this class the Pugilist :)

Shadowfoot's (off the WotC boards) Swashbuckler class is a gret alternative to ComWar's 3-level class with the similar name. Really for of a finesse-fighter than a 'swashbuckler', I personally call this class the Duelist :)

Other than that, the Scout from ComAdven, the Archivist from HoH and the Favoured Soul (with a domain, however) from ComDiv are always welcome in my games :D

Disclaimer: I'm unfamiliar with the setting you're asking about, just giving my two copper on good base classes, regardless of setting :)

I'll second the Bruiser class. It plays quite well, so far. And it's just cool anyway.

My hat of Scotu know no limit however.

That Swashbuckler look alright, on the other hand.

Any idea what kind of classes you'd like to include, Durandal, or is just about anything potentially OK? I'm afraid I don't know much about Dawnforge at all, except that it looks pretty neat from the product pages over at FFG.

I just bought Dawnforge back in July. Have to admit I like it too. If I ever get back into running 3E this setting and rules would probably be why. As it is I adapted the Shaman to my C&C game. Too cool to not use.

Morningstar, which has a similar pitch to Dawnforge (magical world still in its glory days), has an "eidelon" class that's pretty cool. It's a sort of cultural hero/icon class, and fills the same slot as a paladin. Since neither Morningstar nor Dawnforge have "evolved" gods yet, it should plug in pretty easily.

IMC it's called the champion, and I moved paladins to a prestige class (UA version).

Also, pick up the softcover Dawnforge accessory, if you haven't already. It's well worth it.

Yeah, and the Dawnforge module is prety darn good too.

I've been "eyeing" Morningstar for a couple of years now. Maybe I'll have to actually get it soon.

I like Morningstar, and a Dawnstar/Morningforge campaign using most of the Morningstar setting and the Dawnforge rules would be really spectacular. The whole magic-draining thing in Morningstar doesn't work for me, though -- it's unecessarily complex and confusing. It's also not critical to the setting. ;)
