First Post
Hi all!

Sorry for missing last week's thread. So, what new comics have you got? Here are a few from my pull:

Hawkman #22: He's got anger management problems going on. The entire issue is a long bash-fest. Great art, but a boring story. (2.5 out of 5)

FKATJL #6: Funny, but a bit flat. It had some very LOL moments, but much of the issue was just goofy. As the last part of this miniseries, I was expecting something with a bit more spice to it. YMMV. (3.5 out of 5)

Ruse #26: To continue the theme from above, as a series ender it was lacking. The Enigmatic Prism has been dealt with. Emma's secret has been revealed. Not too much drama ensues. Story ends with the potential of future adventures for Simon & Emma (when finances are better for CGE.) Nice, but not emotionally satisfying for a fan who has been here since the beginning. (3.5 out of 5)

Meridian #41: Sephie is drawn to a strange place where she comes to terms with the many adventures that she has experienced since the death of her father. She finally feels like an adult, not an awkward young woman forced to responsibility prematurely. A slow but enjoyable story, with beautiful art. (4 out of 5)

That's all for now. Still reading. ;)

Well, I'm going to do the last two weeks in comics, because my store got the shipment about half a week late so I grabbed them just today. I won't go as long winded as I did in my l_j:

Flash #204: Like the story, seriously dislike the art. I can't wait till the new artist begins. (3.9 out of 5) The art really dragged down the score. Luckily I care more about the writing than an art, if this were an equal footing I'd be scoring this a 3 out of 5.

Fantastic Four #507: Unfortunately, that new artist is the current artist of this title. While many times ahead of Alberto Dose, I do also dislike the art of FF. However, I dislike the cover art more. :shudders: I hate even glancing over at it for a second. Great story though, glad Mark Waid is staying on. (4.25 out of 5)

Supreme Power #5: Love the art AND the story. No complaints at all about this issue, other than January can't come soon enough. I want #6 now! Once again, like everytime I reply to these posts. I can't give this a 5 out of 5 because, well, if the next issue is even better than what would I give that? (4.8 out of 5)

EVERYONE READ SUPREME POWER!!!

There.

Read Bone first!

Just picked my stuff up, I'm only about half way through but Bone #53, Powers #35, and USM #49-50 showed typical excellence. One of the letters in Bone annoyed me though, what was Jeff thinking?

Heck, I haven't picked up my books in over two months. I'll be near my comic shop tomorrow so will stop in, as he still has my JLA/Avengers #2 and #3 as well as 1602 #4. I'll add a post after I've read them and whatever else he's got for me.

Finally picked up my backlog of books. Haven't read them yet, but though I'd give a brief explanation of what I'm currently getting:

JLA/Avengers #2 & #3 - The first issue was wonderful. Busiek and Perez have created a masterpiece here. I'll probably reread issue one before flowing into these two. Something great to do during a blizzard! The cover of issue #3 is incredible - with pictures of EVERYONE who was ever on either team!

1602 #4 - Loved the first three issues, and the the blind archer on the cover of this one looks great. Neil Gaiman is a great writer. I though his work on the Mr Hero book a few years back was terrific.

Teen Titans #5 - This new series is interesting. I'm not overly fond of Johns writing on other books, but this has been consistently interesting. McKone's art is always great. On a related note, the comic shop still had a copy of Titans - Young Justice Graduation Day on the stands (which preceeded this series) that I picked up. I had seen the book at a recent comic show selling for 3x cover price due to the death of a major character.

Exiles #37 & #38 - One of my favorite books these days and the only X title I collect. The concept is basically X-Men meets "Sliders" with a bit of "Quantum Leap" tossed in, with a team of X-Men from alternate realities going from world to world to effect changes. The team membership also keeps rotating members. The current lineup consists of Nocturne (daughter of Nightcrawler & the Scarlet Witch), Sunfire (Wolverine's old girlfriend Mariko), Magik, Sasquatch (Heather Hudson), Mimic (powers similar to the original X-Men character with the same name) and Morph (polymorphing powers & comic relief - similar to the "Beast Boy" character over in Teen Titans).

They've also crossed path several times with a team called "Weapon X", which is a more ruthless sliders team made up of a combination of X-Men and Avengers. Issue #38 seems to be with that team, which has the current team linup of Gambit, Collossus, Storm, Vison, Ms Marvel and Spiderman.

Ironman #74 - Part two of the Tony Stark becomes Secretary of Defense storyline. I enjoyed the last issue, and hopes that this team sticks with the book for a while.

Knights of the Dinner Table #85 & #86 - A book that I'm sure most of you are already familiar with. Great D&D gaming related stories, many of which always seem hauntingly familiar! The back-up features are also fun to read, even though I don't play Hackmaster.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. II #5 & #6 - Yeah, I know, these have been out for a while. But I had only picked up to issue #4, and when the movie came our my comic shop immediately sold out of them. My shopowner had finally managed to get a few more issues of each. Alan Moore's scripts are great. On a related note, if you enjoy this comic be sure to check out the "Story Hour" by the same name (my wife Kriskrafts played Mina in that game).

I picked up just a few comics this week myself. I was hoping to find the Berserk manga but my FLCS was sold out. :(

Here's what I did get:

Ultimates #12: If this series were monthly it'd be fantastic. As it is, I tend to think something along the lines of, "I waited this long and this is what I get...?" Still, Hitch's artwork is nice and there's some good stuff in there for nearly every member of the team, especially Captain America, thor, and Iron Man. Cap's got a pretty funny line: "Surrender!!?? You think this letter on my head stands for France?" There's also a setup for the next issue which seems much more promising since we'll get to see Ultimate Hulk let loose again.

Formerly Known As The Justice League #6: Fun stuff. I'm not sure if they'd be able to pull it off as a monthly ongoing series, but a six issue miniseries every now and again ought to do the trick. I really dug how much crap Batman gives the Martian Manhunter in this.

Plastic Man #1: More fun stuff! Kyle Baker's artwork is just beautiful, although I don't know if it'll be to everyone's tastes--it's VERY cartoony. I'm really curious to see where aker goes with this ad how long the series will actually last.

Supeme Power #5: What a cool book. It's another one that will most certainly read better once it's collected into a trade paperback, but so far I've enjoyed the individual issues immensely.

Ultimate Spider-Man #50: I've said it before and I'll say it again--Ult. Spidey is THE best superhero book on the market today. I get excited just seeing it on the shelf in the comic shop! This one inroduces the Ultimate version of the Black Cat, bad luck powers and all. Fun, fun, FUN!

This makes me wonder, but does anyone else here read Powers? There are a lot of us who read USM and othe BMB books, but I don't recall anyone else who reads Powers.

I read Powers. It's awesome, but I only pick it up in trade paperback form right now, so I'm a bit behind on the current happenings. To my knowledge there are four trades available so far, the last being Supergroup. I think the next one is due out later this month, but I'm not certain. I got to meet Bendis and listen to him speak in Chicago at Wizard World last August. Seemed like a great guy and was a lot of fun to talk to and hear speak. Apparently the only thing people wanted to know about Powers was what the deal was with the issue with all the monkeys gettin' it on. So I've got that issue to look forward to yet. :D

Then you're missing out on one of the best parts, the letters page! Of course it's not grandmother approved, but that's part of the fun.

Yep, it's called Anarchy.

At the beginning pf the letters column in that very issue BMB begged for patience, and said there was a point and there was. It's turned into a reall good story line and you have something to look forward to in it.

Oh, they weren't monkeys, but some member of the Homo genus.

Hmm... I've heard that before. A pal of mine that I loaned the Powers TPBs to has picked up a ton of the single issues now that I've gotten him hooked. I may have to make him return the favor and loan me the singles so I can check out the letters pages.

Bendis' main answer to any questions, Powers-related or not, was "Be patient! It'll all make sense later!" Still, that didn't keep about three people in one meeting from asking him at different times, "What's the deal with the monkey-####ing issue?"
