D&D 4E New "Confessions of a Full Time Wizard" - 4e tidbits!

The thing I found most interesting is that she chose only attack spells (magic missile, burning hands, sleep). Did she have an option to pick defensive and utility spells and if so why not? I also found it interesting that there were more "at-will" powers then "per encounter" or "daily" powers. With my admittedly limited knowledge, I would have thought that there would have been more limited use powers.

She seemingly wanted to focus on offensive, since her last character died. A common mistake amongst rookie players, but forgiveable.

I thought this article was well-written, as was the previous one. With the voice and tone that she writes in, a lot of the meaning (and well-measured sarcasm) often go over the head of many male readers. Her writing reminds me of the same style that authors/bloggers use over at Jezebel.com. I really dig the tongue in cheek jibes. :D

I get a different read about familiars from her piece. I'm not sure they're in the PHB. I wouldn't be surprised (or necessarily saddened) to see them delayed to the arcane magic book.

I also like the article.

About the crunch, I really like that the stats are now created with the point-buy system by default. Although I always used that system, is good to see it finally the standard.

The other stuff, sounds really good to me, and fits my idea of 4E.
But magic-missile as an at-will ... I don't know... An attack that never misses (even with the d4 damage) could be overpowered.

(Off-topic, I was holding shift and I wrote "$E" instead of 4E :P Sounds appropriate for this new edition, apparently MtG marketing style LOL)

re choosing magic missile, fireblast and burning hands: Any idea yet whether at-will and per-encounter macros will be attached to a particular key, or will they let you move them around your keyboard?

... So, we have:

Magic Missile, and Fireblast - at will powers
Burning Hands - per encounter
Sleep - Daily

Skills: Arcana, Insight, History, Diplomacy and Dungeoneering

Tiefling Racial Abilities: attack bonus when retaliating, Hellfire blood (no description)

Feat: Ferocious Rebuke, which pushes your enemy back one square after taking a hit.

Wizards: Familiars still available - possibly delayed to later level.

... And don't forget bears that only some characters can see. Selectively invisible bears. That's interesting.

So a wizard can do magic missile at will and a warlock can use eldritch blast at will. So wait, does that mean that the remolded the wizard to be more warlock-ish?

I surprised no one mentioned the bits about the char sheet yet. Apparently there will be a space for personality, and wizard will offer editable self-calculating sheets.

I'm glad there's a first level spell(yes spell!) called fireblast. I hope it scales like the warlocks arcane blast.

I kind of wonder what the real difference is between magic missile and fireblast though. I would of thought that at will powers would most likely be single target only. Since I think it unlikely that magic missile is autohit, I wonder if one of them is defeated by armour and the other by reflex?
