New Core Class: Changeling (long)

I dont care how many ways you could use it, just PICTURE it: it LOOKS STUPID, which is all that matters. I do not roleplaye for loopholes, I roleplay for kung-fu scree shots, and your long sticky tounge will never be on camera.

And who cares how many uses it has? what, you want Martha Stewart to write "101 ways to use Peter Chisnel's Long Sticky Tongue in DnD 3e?"

Get my drift?

uh, no, when did martha come into this conversation, and you spelled my name wrong Jeph. Why can't it look cool relics and rituals the scared lands book has a spell like it!, it makes sense, and it doesn't have to be used for alternant purposes, just the "YOINK I'm grappling you" is good enough.

A few suggestions:

#1. Call them Zoamorphs, or Manimals, or something. Changeling sounds like it's a class for stolen babies.

#2. Instead of a wilderness lore check or an encounter with the creature to be shapeshifted into, they could learn forms in a similar manner that a wizard learns spells; through research, trade with others, etc. At the very least they should have to kill/tame the animal by fighting it hand to claw using only their human form to capture its essence.

#3. Don't just make them wacky druids. Come up with some ethos or mentality to go along with all these abilities. Maybe they're hunters. Maybe they're animal wardens. Maybe they are seeking a return to some primal state. Whatever, but make it interesting to play.

BTW, This is one of the cooler classes I've seen in awhile. I'm excited to see the finshed product.

(P.S. I posted a big-ass list of fantastical animals in the homebrew monster section. You should check it out...)

Exactly! without a big focus, they can be ANY of the things you listed. Also, the Nature's Child ability lets you specialize your Changeling to have one of the listed focuses (if you want).

Yeah, I thought about a bunch of names, and wanted to call it the Shifter or Shapeshifter, but those were taken.

Manimal sounds stupid, but Zaomorphs seems kool.

persnally, I like the (you can only shift to animals you'v seen" rule, If the player types up a good history, and spens a lot of time in the wild, they will have a pretty nice selection.
