New D&D video game in the works. Its a MMO

Becoming addicted to crystal meth would probably be better for my life, because my productivity would -die- if they released that. I'd be running around as a tiefling xaositect for far too many hours a day.
I'll bet you could get a job playing (or writing) some of the "sage" characters for that setting (if it existed).

That would pay somewhat better than meth addiction.

Cheers, -- N

I am really beginning to resent MMOs taking up all of the valuable development time that could be spent on games that I might actually want to play.

I pity the MMO that thinks it can best WoW, KotORO and Guild Wars 2. I love D&D, but I have less interest in playing a D&D MMO at this point than I do playing any of those three or EVE.

You mean Star Wars: The Old Republic (Not KOTOR)? It didn't even looked that great at the Gamescom.

Why so many publishers produce MMOs:
1. A steady stream of income. You don't need to be as successful as WoW to still make lots of money.

2. (minor reason) no piracy.

Also, Single player RPGs are still made. Just not about D&D.
Examples are Divinity 2 (more an action RPG) and the soon to be released Dragon Age.

If true, this is very discouraging news.

Fourth edition lends itself perfectly to an epic, turn-based strategy game. I salivate just thinking about customizing my own party and taking them from 1 to 30.

The more I think about a 4E MMO, the less I think it could work. Unless their approach is radically different than WoW's, they are destined to be squashed.

EverQuest had hardcore servers, where if your character died that was that.

Diablo II also had an option for hardcore characters, though that's not an MMO.

For me, I don't play MMO simply because I recognize my Achilles' heel when I see it. I know that such games would be my addictive drug of choice and there'd be no getting out of it. In some of the gaming circles around here where I live, Everquest was called Evercrack and for good reason too.

Wish the game company success, but don't count me to play otherwise no one will hear from me ever again...... ;)

This.

The amount of time and money needed to really get the most out of an MMO are really not in abundance at this time in my life. I have friends whose lives, while not ruined, are certainly inconvenienced by how much they choose to put into WOW. As it is, I'm content to watch over their shoulders or read the lore online.

However, if they released a high quality D&D MMO with a sufficient amount of options and customization... well, let's just say I'd suffer a serious penalty to my Will save to resist getting hooked.
