New digital camera goodies

I just purchased a Canon A520 digital camera for Christmas, getting a 512 MB SD card was a no-brainer. Besides rechargable batteries (Nickel Metal Hydride-NiMH) what other "extras" are good with a new digital camera?

BTW, I am still amazed at the size of this camera, it's a tiny little thing and the SD cards are so small, I'm somewhat afraid of losing them on the floor.

Sounds like this is your first digital camera. I also have a Canon Powershot and love it.

You can attach different lenses to it to get better zoom, should you need it. Otherwise, bodhi's suggestions are about all I would suggest. Especially the Photoshop one, though it may be well out of your pricerange. Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro are decent, cheaper substitutes. Or even The Gimp, which is free.

For online galleries I prefer Flickr.

Photo editing good idea, I have some Photoshop experience, but I'm not shelling out $600. Paint Shop Pro is more in my price range.

Tripod is also a good idea. Any specific vendors or will any tripod work?

BTW, isn't Flickr free?

I ended up buying a digital photography book and Lithium batteries, and wish-listing a mini-tripod.

Any suggestions for digital camera bags? I was considering the official Canon PSC-65, but I want space for memory cards and/or batteries.

Please don't get Paint Shop Pro. Get Photoshop Elements. All the features of Photoshop that 98% of the population uses at only $100.

Just a thought.

I didn't care for Photoshop Elements demo. I tried to accomplish some Photoshop tutorials and didn't work. Paintshop Pro, on the other hand, is fairly easy to find tutorials for. I have heard it went downhill in Paintshop Pro X though.

One that can be recharged through the USB port from your laptop. With such a small camera, it'd be a shame to have to carry a clunky battery charger around.
