What do you mean by "the delve format"?

Which WotC adventure are you referring to and what do you mean by "a sensible layout"?

If you're comparing Sleeper with KotS, then I agree KotS was much superior to it in layout (though it had its own glaring problems elsewhere, on top of being generic and bland - and Sleeper seems no better on that account either).

I think Delve format basically means that the book is divided into the "story" section and the "combat encounter" section. When a combat is to break out, you flip to the combat enounter section, which usually will provide a two-page spread for all encounters containing all vital information.

The problem that the combat enounter section contains descriptive text which would be useful to understand the full context of the story. Reading the encounter before the game is annoying due to this, and I think it's also not helpful during the game.
The two-page spread for each encounter itself is great, though.
