D&D 5E New Dungeon kit from WotC with dungeon geomorphs!

The thing is, the DM screen is one of the best items in d&d for serial re-creation:
  • They're easy to manufacture (compared to, say, miniatures)
  • They're far more likely to be used by a gaming group than most of the obvious things they could re-create a lot (miniatures, etc)
  • The groups that use them mostly do so every game, and in a way that does mean they get physically more wear than most things
  • They are easily tailored in art and in their useful content for particular adventure books, which makes them a great tie-in for the modules.
(I haven't personally bought more than the original one and one that was tied in a boxed set I was already getting, but I can definitely see why they sell well.)
I havent liked any DM screen theyve done since 2E. I bought the first 5E one and then got duped by the "deluxe" one not long after, I thought they were both an F-. Im a believer that if they did it right the first time people would just buy or re-buy that one and they could put out a variety of tool type products.

Right. But you aren't necessarily the market they have targeted for DM screens - and that market is clearly large enough for them to make around a dozen variants.
Products don't have to be interesting to every single member of the playerbase. They just have to interest enough people for WotC to make a worthwhile profit on the item. It's clear that the demand exists, so WotC are clearly creating products that a large number of people want.

I understand Im not the demographic for the DM screens anymore. I do wonder though if there are people that do buy all the DM screens that come out or if its more likely people just entering the hobby. I was tempted to pick up the wilderness one but thought of my other experiences with the others and chose not to. Suppose I may be more inclined to buy another if there was a good preview and I knew what was on the first. A screen designed per terrain isnt a bad idea actually. Personally Id be more likely to invest in a bundle of players packets/handouts than another DM screen at this stage of the edition.

Im all for new tools, but is this the 10th DM screen theyve put out this edition?
No. I make it the 26th screen for 5th edition and the 69th screen for D&D overall. And it's not unlikely that I've missed one or two.

What's nice about having multiple DM screens is that you can take over more and more of the table. Right now my four screens dominate about half the table... soon the whole table will be behind my Cardboard Wall!
So your players will have to play hanging upside down from the ceiling like cave fisher victims?

No. I make it the 26th screen for 5th edition and the 69th screen for D&D overall. And it's not unlikely that I've missed one or two.

Id disagree that the players screens arent quite the same but thats stuff Id like to see return. 69 DM Screens, huh? So apparently this isnt a new trend then. I totally agreed with the campaign setting screens they were helpful, the adventure based ones I never bought.

I don't use screens. I tried to use them as a reference, but mainly just ignore them. I might get this for the geomorphs maybe, just to see em.
