New Feat for Sorcs: Metamagic Master

This feat is based on a similar idea I saw on this forum a while ago, with a few changes by me.

Metamagic Master [General]
You have learned to reduce the burden of using metamagic
Prereq: AT least one metamagic feat, spontaenous casting
Benefit: You have a pool of points equal to your charimsa mod per day. Each point can reduce the level increase of a metamagic feat by one up to having no increase in level.

So basically a sorc with 18 cha, could cast two empowered spells for "free". Or 4 extends, a maximised and a silent, etc.

Very interesting idea. but why limit it to sorcerers? What prevents other classes from taking it? I could see some potential for abuse in this, as some players will try to pump up their spellcasting stat to gain a greater bonus, but since the level increases on most metamagic feats are high, it's not really a big deal - so you get another Empower each day. Whoopee. Overall, I think the concept is very intriguing. I'll have to tell my DM about this.

This is an interesting idea, and to me it looks on the conservative side of balanced.

As Kerrick asks -- why sorcerers? This would be just as useful to other casters. IMO, the change to metamagic sorcerers need most (or would desire most) is the ability to cast metamagic spells without bumping the casting time up to a full round.

Can you post the original version you mentioned, just for purposes of comparison?

I like the feat a lot, but unless I'm missing something, it seems to be a bit powerful. The thought of a level 17 Wizard with an intelligence of 30 being able to cast a quickened and 6 times extended Time Stop is pretty scary, don't you think?

EDIT: Err, that's assuming you change the feat so Wizards can use it, of course. The same example would work with a level 18 Sorcerer with a charisma of 30.

Make sure they can't use this to cast spells which would require higher level spell-slots than the caster has access to, and it should work quite well. I've been mulling over something like this for a while, myself. I think also adding that you get a bonus # of levels / day for each meta magic feat you know equal to it's level adjustment (+2 for empower, +4 for quicken, et cetera) would be a nice, logical boost.

(though I'd rather see it as a class ability and summon familiar as a spell, myself).

I concur.

I also agree, that's a good change.

The original idea was just to give it to spellcasters innately and not as a feat (that idea was not mine btw, this is just my altered version of that idea).

I gave it only to sorcs because in my mind sorcs are the ones who benefit most from metamagic and I thought they should get a little more for that, wizards already get plenty in my opinion.
