New feat Overcast

Overcasting [Metamagic]

You know how to overcast your spells.

Prerequisites: Con 15+, Consentration 8+ ranks, Knowledge (arcna) 8+ ranks, Spellcraft 8+ ranks, any other metamagic feat.

Benefit: While casting a spell, you may increase the Spell Level with Metamagic effects beyond the highest level available to you. For instance, a 5th Level Wizard can cast a quickened fireball. This flexibility comes at a cost, however: For every Spell Level above your current maximum, you suffer 1 point of Temporary Constitution Damage.

Note: This Feat does not allow you to cast spells not normally available to you due to Level or your primary spellcasting Ability Score. You must have the spell memorized and be capable of casting it in order to use this Feat. Temporary Constitution points (such as from a Barbarian's Rage) cannot be used to pay the cost. Any con damage must be heal at the standered rate magic healing cant deal with the streas the caster puts on his body.

What do you think.

'While you are casting' means this is spontaneous?
So a 20th level wizard could take meteor swarm and empower it about 5 times...

Maybe this should be determined at spell preparation.

Have a maximum overcast of your Intelligence/Charisma/Wisdom bonus.

Then? Maybe.

I'd do this feat as you gain a +1 overcast for two points of Con damage. If you want +2, take it again... gut reaction.

Up the con damage to 2 (as others have said). Also, limit the uses of this feat to three times per day per feat slot used.

That is, each time you select this feat you effectively have three levels of slots to be spread as you want for 2 con damage each. You could use them all on one spell, or one each on three spells. If you want more of these slots, take the feat again.

Interesting...

I'd make it at least +2 for definite. I still believe that overcasting should kill you at worst, and almost kill you at best.

at fith level you cast a x10 empowered fireball you take 20 points of con damage. Its equeal to the mod on the metamagic feat read it agen please.:)

that aonly works if you have ben hit by a weapon the HP lose happens after the casting if its one achen. So know not for the first spell but the second spell in the round you might havet to make a save.

no I gust checked there is know Concentration check for this type of damage.

But the lose of con means you have less HP and a weaker Fort save and Concentraion check.

I meant that it should do 2 points of Con damage for every spell level over your current maximum. That way a Wizard with 15 Con is still going to be feeling the burn if he casts a Silenced Charm Person.
