New Game - Characters

I have read that book, but forgot the name Bink was from that. It's been over 20 years I'd say. No, I heard the name again recently on a computer game and "borrowed" it.

I begin to see the reason for the "no alignment" although I think it will take just a little work for me to get it straight how you are going to work it. No worries though, I'm up for it.

So far I like what everyone is up to. I do have a thing with names though, so sorry if it sounds like I am harping. Typically I just think it is a good idea to avoid names that conjure characters from other books or movies. But, if you really like Bink, I can live with it! ;)

While I remember the character in question, I don't remember him having the last name of Theocritus. Besides that, you might notice the quotes. That is what people call him. His real name is as yet undivulged. I didn't want to list his real name at this time, though I have it in my notes. Not upset, just hoping to make you feel better. In essence, it's those damn villagers that pick these used names!:p

A lazy fall afternoon conversation with Malikai, the local blacksmith...

"Ol' Marston's daughter, she's a strange one, she is. Well, I say "daughter", but everyone knows ol' Marston adopted her out of pity after what happened to her ma and da. Wha? Nay, nay... Nothing that horrible should ever be spoken of in polite company and you'll get nothing about it from the likes of me. She may not look it, but she is one of the best hunters in this whole blasted stink hole of a town. I watched Marah one day stalkin' a bahr near the edge of the woods on the south side o' town. She snuck up on that there bahr, whipped out that short sword of hers and laid that bahr low with one swipe. If I hadn't made that sword for her...the finest swords money can buy anywhere's near here...I coulda sworn that sucker was glowing when she took down that bahr. Musta been the sunlight glinting off'n it. Not a licka fear in that girl, no sir. She trades the furs with that boy Thicket. Hope she never turns out as weird as ol' Marston. That old fool is always goin on about knowing how to create stuff just by thinkin' about it. Pfft. I asked him to prove it and he never has. Ain't no such thing possible if'n ya ask me."

Of course you realize that your character's name is the same as Hamdin's older dead brother? Behold:

I will be playing a middle aged man named Hamdin (Ham) Mueller. He is a miller, in case you couldn't tell that from the name. He owns his own windmill and small farmstead. He is a superstitious man who believes that his family has been cursed ever since his forefathers settled in the area, being themselves occupiers and murderers. When he was young his father took advantage of several of the village's women (while married). For this, Hamdin's father was run down by the village elders, castrated, and was hung upside down from a tree and left for the vultures to eat. His wife was tried and stoned to death; the charge was fostering infidelity by being a poor wife and not attending to her husband's needs. Hamdin's oldest brother Malik was allowed to retain the mill, though the brothers were never allowed to marry, thus Hamdin's bachelor status. Malik died of plague and the farm and mill passed to Hamdin. He has been running the mill since the age of twenty. He is now forty-two.

Maybe it is a popular name, locally. We used to have four John's in my office and five Andrews...

And Chris' character's name wasn't supposed to be Malik, but just the blacksmith tellin' the yarn... I don't think Chris ever mentioned her name.

I could see her and Thicket working together. I also envisioned him as a hunter/trapper... If she has any Charisma to speak of, she could be the one doing the deals, 'cause he has none.
