New Main FAQ Rundown (mostly Haste)

Here's an executive summary of the new elements added to the 11/16 version of the Main FAQ:

(1) An extended example (2 pages) of suggested rulings for adjudicating awareness and surprise. He recommends that Spot checks are most applicable outdoors, Listen checks indoors. (He also recommends that a group of Hiders Take 10 on their Hide check, which I've suggested in the past.)

(2) Armor of speed should work like boots of speed (10 rounds per day), and be priced as a +2 bonus.

(3) Boots of speed require a standard action to activate or deactivate.

(4) Haste does not allow a Spring Attacker to make a full attack.

(5) Haste does not allow one to sidestep "per-turn" limitations -- such as for 5 ft. steps, or charging-in-a-straight-line. (This last question text, I must note, is verbatim from an email query I sent the Sage myself.)

Opinion-Editiorial: I fundamentally agree with rulings #1-#4, although clearly #2 is a rules change (at least regarding the price), and I truly wish items like these appeared in Errata and not the FAQ, which is ostensibly for clarifications only.

#5 I really wish had been ruled in the other direction. I've had this ruling since Skip kindly emailed it to me a few months ago. Nonetheless, it would be easier if each action in a round was adjudicated entirely separately, instead of tracking or even back-tracking (such as full move-only, then later partial attack) certain "per-turn" limitations.

Edit: Is this or is this not actually new this weekend? The WOTC web page marks it as revised on 11/16, but the PDF itself is dated 10/25.

I've noticed that before. I think it means that they finished changing the FAQ on 10/25, but then reviewed it (perhaps sent it to the 'rules committe' or some such) before posting it.

Actually, that's not exactly what he said. He said it should be priced as a +2 armor bonus, which is 8,000gp, the same price as the boots themselves. There's a substantial difference between a +2 market price modifier and a +2 armor bonus. I think he meant to say +2 market price modifier, because if it is to be treated merely as a secondary power on armor, it would cost 16,000gp for being doubled in price.

Strange way to answer the question.

Uhm...I was merely pointing out that his response was worded strangely. Is there a problem here I'm not aware of?

Huh? You gave a clarifying comment, and I agreed to it. Why would there be a problem?

Alrighthy then. Looks like there isn't a problem. :)
