New May WotC cover art

That said, no, I didn't look at those books, either for details or even inspiration. While I know that other people think differently, I prefer to limit my exposure to other books that potentially cover the same territory as something I'm assigned to write. While there's some risk of overlap that way, it also ensures that I'm not too heavily influenced by someone else's take to come up with my own. (The truth is, I'm very easily influenced when it comes to my ideas, so I prefer to minimize my exposure in that regard.)

So any history/canon that went into this book was strictly based off prior TSR/WotC material. However, I think you'll find that we didn't slavishly adhere to that either. As Whizbang pointed out, this book wouldn't have much of a market if we didn't provide some new material...
Well, I'll get it because I enjoy your work and I like looking at the different ways writers tackle a subject. Have you had the opportunity to (or will you) look at the 3rd party stuff now that your writing on this topic has been completed?

Though now that I think about it, when I write for my industry, I don't like it when I read something that addresses the same topic I wrote about... I can't help making comparisons.

Yes but I promise to buy everything else you have writing Ari. That's a solemn vow. I just have a distaste for Drow after all they did to my beloved Orcus. :p

Nightfall, it is not YOUR beloved Orcus it is OUR beloved Orcus. He is a Demon God for every lost soul out there!
And see it like that: buy the book and know your enemies! Maybe Kiera...whatever got some lines and we know where she hid after our Lord of Undeath kicked her butt our of Thanatos.

All Hail to Orcus!

And of course I will but the book because of Ari and Rob Schwalb.

Nightfall, as I sidenote: We should try to get HIS name somehow into The Empire of Ghouls Project.

Honestly, probably not. I like the drow well enough to write about them, obviously, but I'm not such a huge fan that I feel the need for any further material on them. I can't keep up with my RPG reading as it is. ;)

What industry is that, if you don't mind me asking?

Mostly I was pleased that my name was first, until I realized it was alphabetical. ;)

I always get kick out of that. Unless there's a big name lead designer, my name is usually first because it begins with "B," but somehow it still gives me a smile :)

I'm really looking forward to this.

I would like to run the classic GD (but not Q... I have always hated Q1 with a passion) series, coupled with the excellent Shadows over Istivin trilogy from Dungeon issues 117-119, as a last return to Greyhawk and having an updated version of Erelhei-Cinlu (sp?) will help a great deal.
