new mearls interview?

Plus, let's face it, Paizo is absolutely straining at the limits of the amount of work/product they can push out already. They're always scrambling to get things done. In order to take on 5e stuff on top of what they're already doing they would have to expand their staff massively and that's a huge risk for a company like that to take.

This is true. In fact I pretty sure Lisa Stevens and EriK Mona have said on more than one occasion that Paizo as a company are going to have only so many employees on the payroll and they might be close to that upper limit now.

I want to see Paizo do well but I also dont want them to get to big either. I really enjoy their products and Pathfinder has given me a "home" after I had been considering leaving the hobby for good. So I hope that they stay around (and independent from WOTC) for a good long time.

OK, now, while I agree with your general premise, you are not Erik's keeper. You don't need to CAP the K to tell people they are spelling his name wrong. That's his job.

If you asked Lisa Stevens if she wouldn't mind getting 20% or 30% or 50% richer from producing 5e compatible adventures, I am sure she would have no problem growing, especially if their employees and consultants make extra money too. Do not discount the power of capitalism in establishing growth for a company.

I didn't even NOTICE that. And the only reason that it is probably CAPPED is because I probably misspelled it, realized my mistake and changed it accidentally hitting the shift key while doing it.

True. I hope that's not the case though. Too many small companies tend to grow too big too fast. I also think that Lisa is genuine when she says that though.

No worries. You know how fans are, I have actually done the spelling mistake with CAPS to tell someone that a 3.x supplement was spelled a certain way. Maybe I was projecting my own product defense mechanism upon you. Please forgive...

But, I kinda wish massive growth upon Paizo. They deserve it. They are the new torch-bearer for RPG business acumen, I buy LOTS of Paizo stuff even though I had been playing 4e. The fluff and world-building is awesome. Hundreds of dollars invested.

But, geez, if 5e is open enough and takes off, I would lose respect if they didn't bring their creativity to bear on the 5e rule-set.

It would be sad.... Pathfinder APs are the best long-term campaign options available for the RPG industry. I am 45, child, wife, primary job, consulting jobs and its a lot different when I was 20ish. Age of Worms, Savage Tide... they made my gaming life easier. And my players benefited from it in spades. Balabar Smenk was one of the best, most despicable NPCs in my campaign.

Please, Paizo, Lisa or Erik if you are watching. Lobby for a GSL/OGL and create 5e content. I beg you...

I think it goes without saying that the GSL or anything similar is a non-starter for us, but we'll see how things shake out. The OGL worked wonders with third edition, and if you're trying to choose between the two approaches, it's pretty obvious which one is the smarter business move for Wizards.

I'm optimistic.

Also, please spell my first name with a K.

:)

One of the more interesting questions from my perspective is whether 5e stat blocks can be short enough that third party adventure publishers could reasonable publish material compatible with both 5e and their preferred format. This was very hard in 4e, because encounters didn't work as well if the encounters weren't designed for 4e.

If the next version is truly compatible with multiple styles of D&D, an OSR-style adventure, a Pathfinder-style adventure or a 4e-style adventure could be adapted to D&DN rules without reconceptualizing most of the mechanical elements.

Is that a hard "K" as in "kick" or a silent "k" as in "knock"? ;)
