New member introduction posts/threads

I cast "Baconstorm!"
Is there a "correct" place for a new member to introduce himself?

I've seen a few such "Hello, everybody!" threads in random places around here. Unfortunately, sometimes they draw response posts like "You're in the wrong sub-forum, buddy."

It might be nice to have a clearly indicated "Introductions" sub-forum (or even just a sticky thread) so new members can post a bit about themselves, why they're here, or simply say hi. In their intro posts, I've occasionally seen newbies comment on the lack of an Intros section, so this might be a way to encourage a little more participation and avoid a clash with some of the, umm, less-forgiving ENworlders with the very first post.

Perhaps it's a non-problem, but it might be something to consider.

Can't seem to find one myself, thought there was one...

In any case, I don't think we need one if it doesn't exist already. Most of us never made an intro post AFAIK, it's really not important. The few that make such posts don't account for much space on the threads list.

There isn't one, no. I'm aware that some forums have them. I've always thought it a silly idea.

Besides we get over a thousand new members a month. Nobody would actually read them all.

Fair enough, I just thought it'd be worth pointing out something I'd noticed a few times.
It all certainly seems to be working well enough as is.
