New Metamagic: Dismissable Spell

Dismissable Spell [Metamagic]
You can prematurely end the duration of spells.
Benefit: A dismissable spell can be ended by the caster using a standard action. Dismissable spell take up a spell lot of the same level as the original spell.


Basically, this is for spells like blade barrier and silence where you can't prematurely end the spell. I don't know if the effect is worth a +1 modifier, what do you guys think?

The only thing I would say is maybe make it have a prerquesite like any other metamagic feat or a few ranks in some skill or something.

It's not worth a +1 modifier to me. The cost of giving up one feat to do this sounds plenty enough for me.

If you want to give it a prerequisite, as suggested by Merlion, how about the ability to cast Dispel Magic?

I agree with Firelance. Why is it a standard action to dismiss, though? I thought dismissing a spell was a free action.

I think it is a standard action generaly but not 100% sure

Feat is a little on the weak side.

I thought that if a spell doesn't have " (D) " listed in the duration, you can't dismiss it and you must wait until the spell runs out (or have it dispelled). ( right? )

For spells like those, you have to cast them at a lower caster level if you don't want them to last as long as normal.

I can see this feat allowing all spells to be dismissable, especially if you want to pull yourself out of the mind-altering nature of the Tenser's Transformation spell (for example).

Oh, yeah... change the name of the feat, since you already have dissmissable spells and non-dismissable spells.

If you want a prereq, I'd say either 4 ranks in Knowledge (Arcana), or any other metamagic feat. But it seems fine without prereqs to me, and definitely does not need a +1 adjustment.
