We like NYAMBE so much, we've let it take over our whole website!

(Uh, until Alex gets a chance to fix the file renaming glitch that led to the current state of things, anyhow...)

I talked with our printer earlier this week, and she confirmed that the schedule is still for NYAMBE to hit our warehouse on Tuesday. Yay! I can't wait!

In vaguely related news, it looks like we're getting an arrangement set up to sell decent quantities of our D20 stuff (including Nyambe, I expect) to the book trade, in particular Barnes & Noble, via a book wholesaler. Up until now we've been dealing in some healthy volume directly with Borders/Waldenbooks, and plus the odd special order from B&N, but this should actually lead to more of our titles being on more bookstore shelves in the near future.

Interesting. Any possibility you'll have copies at the San Diego Comic-con?

BTW, a new Borders opened up near where I live (up the street in fact). They could use more in the way of RPG stuff.

We weren't planning on it. The truck for San Diego will be gone before we receive the books. I guess I can ask the Source guys, who rep us there, if they want overnight delivery of some copies -- if we get it in time for that even. I'm always leery about promised delivery dates, since they often seem to slip a day or two. That's why we worked our tails off to have a planned delivery date more than a week before the start of Gen Con, as insurance against delays and snafus.

Ok, you know how I often say I'm choking on d20 stuff and will probably never need to buy another book as long as I live?

Nyambe will likely be the exception :D

Very good to hear it, Eric! :)

I wish retailers and distributors showed similar confidence in the book today. I'm feeling pretty frustrated at the moment, as I have most of the numbers in, and they are really weak (like, about 40% lower than my expectations). Someone commented to me at the GAMA trade show that gamers wouldn't be very interested in Africa -- I don't know if that's what retailers are thinking when they pre-order so little, or if it's just the pressure of the number of D20 titles out there. Pretty discouraging, when this is the most lavishly produced D20 product we've done to date (having a huge art budget and 16 pages of interior color), and probably the most promoted (with ads running in Games Quarterly, Comics Retailer, Dungeon and Dragon -- the Dragon ad hasn't appeared yet, though).

If you are interested in this book -- which I really believe a lot of gamers will be, if they get the chance to see it, regardless of what the naysayers may argue -- I urge you to bug your local game store and make sure they'll be stocking it. August is a big month for releases, thanks to Gen Con, and I'd hate for something really different and innovative in the D20 scene to be missed because of the crush of new titles. (Not that we don't need a half dozen new books on each character race out there, of course... )

In happier news, it looks like we may have some books rushed to San Diego this weekend after all, if in fact they are delivered to us today as expected.

:D Hooray! (And similar noises)

Indeed!

Nyambe is now here -- I'm just catching my breath between bouts of box-packing. Already done are the boxes going to San Diego, one 2-day and one 3-day, so they should arrive in waves on Thursday and Friday. :)

Boy, this book looks good. It's probably the most attractive book we've ever published.
