New PC Race: Shadow Imp

first make him small, change fly maneuverability to poor and lower base speed, change stats to -2 str, +2dex -2con(-2cha and +2int, if you want a bonus to skills), give them -2 con to make up for some of the specials. dump the skill bonus and the climb spell thing. drop the see through magic darkness and the invisibility once a day. and that should be balanced enough for playing at no ECL.

There you have my opinion, now please do me a favor and give me yours on my thread(or just write something so it refreshes to the front page), "Monk prestige class and a feat, looking for comments" Thank you

Lol, well...I agree with some of it but there are things I do not agree with here. First of all, Ive done some thinking and you know, I agree about the special powers so good bye to them. As for flight and base speed...basically, Ill stick with the normal imps movement (20ft., fly 50ft. (perfect)). Also, I will keep the -4 Str +4 Dex as it IS balanced (according to the DM guide). I will add in instead a -2 Cha +2 Int. Size is still tiny (as an imp IS tiny), -2 Con to even things out a bit (if need be). +2 racial bonus on hide, move silently, and escape artist checks. +2 racial bonus to spot checks. Now, I think thats about it...I havent tested it out yet but still it is better than before. Personally, I feel your opinion was more sarcasm than anything else. Fly of poor? Why so bad? They are IMPS! They ALWAYS FLY! I dont get it how they would become so horrible at flying. Also, your -'s to con are going to be particularily nasty to him as a PC. -4 to con all for some specials? Sounds a bit much. The thing you proposed is not appealing AT ALL. Its worse than any other race! Fly of poor?! A thrown apple could out fly him! Also...about your request to post in your thread so it refreshes to the top...I have no clue where to start looking for your thread so perhaps a link to it? Also, anyone else want to suggest something new (No ranting or sarcasm please)?

Here's my link to my PrC, and I would apperciate ANY comments

None of my post was intended as sarcasm, the fly poor thing I got from the MM, which states the flight ability of a large bird(which would be about tiny, in my opinion) is poor. But I looked in the MM under imp and they have perfect flight, so I guess run with it!
Technicaly -4 str/+4 dex is balanced but untechnicaly it is not, because your race is mainly for a rogue, which allows for complete specialization beyond that of any of the other races for the rogue class, of course this is probably what you were going for I just don't feel that it is appropraite(the next thing you'll be getting are fighter classes that want +4 str/-4cha,int, and so on)but surely this is MY opinion and I dont mean to rant ;>)

Anyways I never said anything about -4 con, but if you are going to keep them tiny you might want to consider it, for the reason that small creatures get a +4 size bonus to hide, so I think that means tiny size gets a +8 bonus to hide (just for example)

And by the way please don't flip out about someone trying to give you their honest opinion, in other words stay:cool:

Just my opinion:

- +2 Dex, -2 Str, -2 Con: They are very quick and agile but are not so strong or hardy.
- Tiny: +2 size bonus to AC, +2 size bonus on attack rolls, +8 hide bonus, needs smaller weapons, smaller weight to be carried
- Speed 20ft., fly 40ft. (perfect): They are quick on the ground and have perfect flying abilities
- +2 racial bonus to Balance, Escape Artist, and Move Silently
- Darkvision 60ft
- Favoured class: Rogue
- Bonus language: Infernal

I dont use a calculator but that may be balanced as a ECL +0. Still not sure if I would allow it. I dont think a race exists that gives 4s, so I reduced your bonuses to 2s. Added a -2 con to compensate for perfect flight and defray advantage of being tiny (which also comes with disadvantages). Added more realistic skill bonuses. Changed see in magical darkness to darkvision, I doubt they see better than the like of drow who live every moment in darkness, and I didnt give them Light Sensitivity.

Edited: +1 version

If youre willing to pay a level, I would suggest:
- +4 Dex, -2 Str, -2 Con: They are very quick and agile but are not so strong or hardy.
- Fire Resistance 5, Cold Resistance 5, Electricity Resistance 5
- Favoured class: Rogue
- Bonus language: Infernal

They pick up the dex bonus you wanted and some imp-like resistances. This I may allow as a PC class, still wary of the equal-to-dwarves/elves/gnomes/etc version.

Lol, Im sorry there if it seemed as I got angry or something...I did not. I just dont want someone to act out and rant instead of actually help me. Making races is obviously new to me. I had him in an epic game though so I think that may be why he was accepted. Anyways, thanks then for your help. Technik4...I like your re-edit of the imp. It works. Now, as to the dex bonus thing...I give him a dex bonus not because of the class that most of them choose but rather because of how they are built. They are fast and agile but not exactly strong. They become rogues often or not because it is the lifestyle that fits them. Most Shadow imps live alone by themselves scattered all about the prime material plane, often then not, ending up in cities. Since they live in the cities, they must have a way to supply food and shelter to themselves and thus they become rogues...learning dexterious abilities first as they are fast and agile, learning intelligent skills second, and last, skills of strength due to their weak nature. The rogue is their natural class out of survival basically. They may also choose sorcerer, or wizard. For the most part, they avoid classes dealing with fighting and religion such as fighter, monk, and cleric. I think the re-edit sounds quite good. Question...did you drop 10ft. from the imps fly ability for a reason or was it just an accident? Personally, I dont care...Im just interested to know, lol. Thanks.
