New players handbook

i noticed they have that new players handbook and i was wondering if i should buy that and the first one or should i just buy the new one. would i need both or is the new one?

If you want to play Dungeon and Dragons 4th edition you'll need the first Players Handbook. The second one only lists additional classes, magical items, feats etc. It's nice to have, some would say the classes are better, but you need the rules in the first one to play.

It's not Player's Handbook v2.0 - it is Player's Handbook Vol 2.

You need the original Player's Handbook to get the core game rules. Player's Handbook vol 2 adds more options and features and has some errata in it. You can use the PHB fine on its own, but the PHB2 needs the original PHB.

The original Players Handbook has the bulk of the rules and magic items, and the original classes.

Players Handbook 2 has some new and different classes, paragon paths, feats, and magic items, and a few rules updates.

You only "need" the first one, but if you want all the options available you would want the second one as well.
