D&D 4E New Races in 4e

Given the popularity of the half-dragon template, I can't imagine it ever vanishing from D&D. I hope the best (meaning most flavorful, in addition to being the most useful) templates are brought directly into the 4E MM. Oh, and non-killer swarms. The 3.5E ones are a little too rough for low level characters.

However, I DON'T think warforged will ever be in core, as they remind certain people of magic robots (alright, I admit it: I like Eberron, but I don't really like warforged, lightning rail, or airships. Aerenal kicks *** though.)

Wait... you like Eberron, but you hate all the things that make Eberron Eberron. Warforged and Airships are Eberron!

So, wait, does that mean that the stuff I will like in 4E will equal WoW??? :p

x=-y, y!=z does not imply x=z. Sorry :(

I would definitely like to see the goliath! A big strong race that is NOT stupid was something I was looking for for a long time.

Agreed. I'd love to see the goliaths make it into core, but I'm not very optimistic about it actually happening.

Not necessarily. There's a lot more to Eberron than that. Personally I loathe warforged, I'm fine with airships, but I do love Eberron more and more. I can't wait to delve deeper into it.

The warforged are what got me interested in Eberron in the first place...

Without all the "magical technology," you're just left with another boring, generic fantasy setting like Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, and 90% of the other settings out there, homebrew and published.

There's a good chance that Aasimar have been renamed Eladrin. Eladrin was used for something similar in 3e, and it's a much more evocative name than aasimar.

No, eladrins are not similar to aasimars. Eladrins are the race that personifies chaotic good, as demons personify chaotic evil and devils personify lawful evil. They're full-blooded outsiders.

Aasimars are humans with the blood of celestials in their veins, the descendents of half-celestials or other aasimars. Their name hasn't really made any sense since they stopped using the word "aasimon" to describe what are now called angels, so I wouldn't object to a new name, but that name won't be "eladrin." What would they call the eladrins, in that case?

"Angelar" would be a decent name, and would parallel the origins of the word "aasimar."

I like Aasimar, personally. It's not as high profile, but it's part of D&D's surprisingly small core mythos just as much as Baatezu, Tanar'ri, Illithids and Beholders. I never knew the origins of the term, this is the first time I've heard of aasimon, but I still like the word.

What are the origins of Tieflings?
