New Revision Spotlight - Deflect and Snatch Arrows

You can see the revised feats here. The most notable change is that there is no longer a Reflex save to deflect the projectile, it's automatic once per round. Also, you can infer some kind of change to the monk; it appears that they get some kind of bonus feat list rather than a fixed list of abilities.

I personally approve of both changes. Deflect Arrows never struck me as a very good feat, and monks have been too unflexible.

One of my biggest issues with Monk is their lack of versatility (I'm sure everyone and their mom can come up with ways to get versatility out of the class, but I can't... or don't think I should have to). It seems that compared to other classes, all monks are relatively the same. Unlike spellcasting classes, they have no spell differences from one to the next. Unlike fighters, they have no feat variation. Unlike rogues, they have no skill variation. etc. etc.

Allowing variation to the class through monk feats would be much appreciated.

I noticed that deflect arrows refers to having a free hand.
I don't see why that's necessary. What about Greatsword wielding fighter who want to deflect arrows with his weapon?

Anyway, I've always thought this feat was very cool.

Definately better, but not that great, and with so few weeks till 3.5 comes out, I was hoping for something a little cooler for the revision spotlight.

Look on the bright side, at least its not another devil.

"Armed Deflection" ... WOTC site, in the archive of Epic Insights under "Epic Combatants". Not a particularly Epic feat IMO, so some reasonable non-epic penalties (Dodge, Expertise, BAB 4+ or so, and Weapon Focus in the weapon being used) ... and I'd allow it for nonepic characters, myself.

I'd allow it with Deflect Arrows and Weapon focus. With the Deflect prerequisites, that's two more feats... expensive enough.

house rule?

Deflect Arrows
Prerequisites: Dexterity 15+, Spot [6]

Benefit: Automatically deflect one missile weapon per round as long as you are aware of the attack and you have your dexterity bonus vs. the attacker.
