New Rune Domain Ability

I am thinking of proposing to my DM that my cleric of Mystra, who just got the Rune Domain through Divine Discipleship, should get Incribe Runes instead of Scribe Scroll as the domain's special ability. This seems to make much more sense to me.

Can anyone give me their opinion of this? If you were DM, would you allow it or not, and why?

I think that's fine; Scribe Scroll isn't really less powerful than Inscribe Rune, and the latter does fit the Rune domain better. However, if you're doing this because you already have Scribe Scroll, that might be a bit sketchy in your DM's eyes.

Ha. No, I do not have Scribe Scroll. In fact, in order to make any use of the Inscribe Rune feat I am going to have to stuff a skill like Profession(Scribe) with LOTS of points that I would much rather have somewhere else. Problem is that in order to successfully create a rune you need to roll 20 + spell level (!) using a skill that a deals with writing of some kind. And if you fail the roll you STILL lose the GPs and XPs! Ouch.

Still, I think it makes more sense for the Rune domain to give you that instead of Scribe Scroll. Also, since our party is on the road a lot, I can actually see myself using Insribe Rune more often despite the higher expense and risks involved.

In that case, I'd certainly allow you to take Inscribe Rune. While more useful "on the move" than Scribe Scroll, it is considerably less cost-effective.
