Tell me what you think. Is the damage to low?

Prismatic Aura
Abjuration
Level: Mys 5, Wiz/Sor 5
Range: 0
Target: You
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: See Text
Spell Resistance: No

This spell surrounds the caster in a shifting cloak of light in every colour of the spectrum. Any creature with less than 5 HD or levels within 20 feet of the aura must make a Fortitude save or be blinded for 1d4 rounds.
The aura provides a +4 deflection bonus to armor class, and a +2 bonus to all saving throws. Additionally, anyone striking the caster with handheld or natural weapons suffers one of the following affects(roll randomly to determine)

1d8 Colour Effect
1 Red 1d4+1 Fire damage (reflex half)
2 Orange 1d6 Acid damage (Reflex half)
3 Yellow 1d8 points Electricity damage (Reflex half)
4 Green Poison (1d4 Con damage, Fortitude negates)
5 Blue Held (1d4+1 rounds, Will negates)
6 Indigo Confusion (1d4+1 rounds, Will negates)
7 Violet Teleported 1d8x10 ft away from caster (Will negates)
8 Struck
by two
effect roll
again twice
ignoring
any 8s.

Sounds neat. But the damage is a little low for a 5th level spell. I'd say either up each damage die by 1, or drop the spell level to 4.

Its funny you say that Ang because theres a guy on another board who feels the damage should be reduced and that it will still possibly be a 7th or 8th level spell as written :-)
But yea I am prolly going to make it 2 dice for each effect rather than one

My advice: lose the 5 HD limit on blinding. That's one hold-over from 2e which I hate about the Prismatic effects.

Make clear what happens with respect to "reach" weapons. Some spells state "any creature attacking from within 5 feet, or attacking with any natural weapon".

Otherwise, very cool!

Pretty nice for a 5th level spell, especially if you plan on getting attacked. A sly wizard with stoneskin and this could deal pretty handily with some monsters.

I think the elemental damages are too low, or should not have a save. The blanket saving throw bonus might be too much also, maybe +2 reflex because whoever is targeting the prismatic one is gonna have their eyes boggling :P

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think I will remove the HD limit, and up the elemental damages to 2 dice each.
