Creates a 30 X 30 X 30 extra dimensional space. The space is accessible via a 3'X5' opening that appears directly in front of the caster upon completion of the spell. The opening is Invisible and creatures who can see through invisibility can only see the portal, not what is inside of it. Only the caster and those knowing the password (as stated at the time of casting) can cross the portal. If observing the spell, on a successful spell craft check (DC 18) the password can be determined. Unless spells (including Divinations) can cross dimensional boundaries, they cannot effect creatures within the extra dimensional space. At the end of the spell, everything inside the space spills out onto the ground. If the portal or spell is dispelled or disjuncted, everything inside will spill out. Inside the space is filled with whatever the caster wants, as per major image. All items, walls, etc within the space are illusionary. In addition, any walls, chairs, desks, or other simple furniture can be created out of force. Any object created must be in contact with the surface of the space or another object created and can contain no moving parts. An illusion than can be placed over the force to create a very real object. This provides a suitable space for sleep, studying, and the like. Once set, none of the items can be changed. The caster can set the real temperature inside the space to anywhere from 0 degrees to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Any extra dimensional items brought into the space function normally, as this space is a "pocket prime". The portal serves as a conduit through the astral plane to the created extra dimensional space. The portal also leaves a signature on the astral plane, but it is inaccessible except by extraordinarily powerful magic. If this spell or rope trick is cast inside itself, it creates a pocket dimension off of the first dimension. If the first spell expires before the second, the portal out of the second leads to the astral plane. When the second spell ends, all the contents of the spell will be dumped out onto the astral plane.

I am nervous about providing access to the astral plane using a fourth level spell (in conjunction, perhaps, with a second level spell). Other than that, it seems like a fine spell; sort of a combination leomund's tiny hut and rope trick.

Nervous about 4th level?

What about Rope Trick? Based on the most common rules of the planes and D&D, that's a 2nd level spell that HAS to provide access to one of the transitive planes. In doing so, casting a rope trick inside a rope trick should do exactly what this spell describes, although there is no description of it anywhere. Ask any mage what he thinks of casting a rope trick inside a rope trick and they will all say: bad idea. But what are the actual results? I thought about it long and hard and came up with the description inside this spell.

I look at it this way, as a DM you should not be worried about your players going to the astal, it is your players you should be worried about going to the astral. If they try to abuse it, just have them get stuck there and interogated by some roaming Gythyanki, that ought to convince that there is no place like home.

I have an image of a mid-level mage with a wondrous spoon of food and a past he'd like to hide from casting this spell every 12 hours or so, leaving a worm-trail of phantom rooms slowly expiring behind him.

Interesting rescue scenario.

Cheers, -- N

4th level?

As a 4th level spell you think this is ok? So far it seems to be, let me know if you think I should change it and why. Thanks for the feedback.
