Gnometown Hero
Continuing in my line of new spells for kobold casters. Since traps are a big part of their culture, and the current trap spells are sort of wimpy (and I'm putting off creating a balanced Detect Traps spell), I've come up with (what I think is) a more cinematic variant of the fire trap spell.
Feedback greatly appreciated.
Toothy Trap
Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Touch
Targets: Object touched
Duration: Permanent until discharged (D)
Saving Throw: Reflex
Spell Resistance: No
Toothy trap creates biting set of magical teeth when an intruder opens the item that the trap protects. A toothy trap can ward any hinged object that can be opened and closed (book, box, chest, coffer, coffin, door, and so forth).
The teeth bite for 1d6 points of damage and will attempt to bite once a round per caster level (maximum of 20 rounds).
A toothy trapped item cannot have a second closure or warding spell placed on it.
A knock spell does not bypass a toothy trap.
You can use the toothy trapped object without discharging it, as can any individual to whom the object was specifically attuned when cast. Attuning a toothy trapped object to an individual usually involves setting a password you can share with friends.
Note: Magic traps such as toothy trap are hard to detect and disable. A rogue (only) can use the Search skill to find a toothy trap and Disable Device to thwart it. The DC in each case is 29 (25 + spell level).
Material component: A half pound of ground teeth sprinkled on the warded object.
